Hi guys I am after a little bit of diet advice.

I am currently trying to lose weight and because of my job and limited diet I eat pretty much the same thing each day. I know it is not the best but how much of impact will it have on my ability to lose weight.

Can anyone tell me accurately how many calories in each? I have tried some food websites but the amount of calories on there vary considerably.

Normal day

Breakfast - 2 x Brown toast with peanut butter

Lunch - Medium Jacket potato with butter and beans / or Tomato Soup

Tea - Beans on two slices of toast (White) with butter

Snacks in between - Apples, Bananas, Oranges etc

I would guess at around 1500, but a few of the items will have kcals on their packaging (bread, peanut butter, beans, etc.)

All I can say is providing you are taller than 5 foot and weigh slightly more than a packet of crisps; on that diet, you will lose weight...

You should definately be loosing weight on that amount of food. I hope you've included any snacks (no matter how small) and any calorific drinks? If you make a note of these you'd be surprised how much these add up to.

There is no secret to weight loss. Its just calories in, vs calories out.

If you want to increase the rate of loss then you should incorporate some activities to your daily routine.

You need more protein,as your diet seems to be mainly carb based.

Cut out the butter and go for lowfat marg.Aim for 180gm chicken/turkey breast, more if you're doing lots of exercise, with broccoli/beans etc.

So you're basically living off 4 slices of bread, some beans, a potato and some fruit every day?

This is bad.

You may think this is good due to a physically low amount of food being taken in but your diet is high in carb (not good for weight loss) and has fat (butter) and sugar (beans, peanut butter) in it too.

Substitute butter for low fat margarine as a start but for gawd's sake, eat more (good things) at dinner. Have lean meat or fish with vegetables.

Exercise aswell. Key part of weight loss - you can lose weight without moving your ass but it's bloody difficult.

This is not my exact diet every day but it is probably as bad as it gets and put it up as I would eat close to this combination more times than other foods. As you have suggested I do change around my evening meal as that is the most flexible and try and have some chicken etc. I do also exercise (and take vitamins) but I have picked up a number of injuries that have hampered this.

As a diabetic, I can relate to a lot of what you eat as it's almost all included in my diet. But I would lose the tomato soup, especially if it's the Heinz variety. It's very high in sugar content. By way of a change, switch to something like chicken or vegetable soup for lunch. Baked potatoes? Not a problem.

I agree with the recommendations about butter. A low fat spread is better. From time to time, have sardines (in olive oil) on toast or other oily fish.

Cut back on the carbs, increase your veg/fruit intake, stop using butter, and get some Calcium in your diet. Make sure you drink plenty of water.
