insulin and driving

T2 diabetic and just started injections

form from the dvla was a bit confusing, so was not sure if needed to include the driving licence, figured they already have my details on file, so they would simply make a new one ?

tried the helpline, but it was along the lines of we are very busy and click...

sent in the form with no licence, figured they might well lose it if I did, as for the paper copy, not sure where it is anyway

I rang to do the same a few weeks ago, they sent a form that i filled in and that was that. I havnt had to send a licence off or anything, just the disclaimer.

cheers for that, read of the DVLA's ability to lose stuff that they get posted, so suspect a good choice to keep the DL

If your insulin dependant you will have a 5 year license. So you should send it off to get the correct expiry date.

not dependent on insulin, it is just another form of treatment

if a T1 diabetic stopped taking insulin, quite a high chance of death within the month, if I stop taking insulin, nothing much happens, so not dependant on it

Chard are you sure it's not 3 years... Mine is.

I'm sure the DVLA rule was that if you take insulin (dependant or not) then you got the restricted licence. You can't get a HGV licence either although if someone knows any different to this I'm all ears.

only drive a car and have no interest in driving heavy goods or other similar vehicles, suspect it is the 3 year licence as well
