Invisalign braces.

Has anyone had them done?
I had braces when I was a kid but being the dumbass I was I didn't wear my retainers for long after the permanents came off.

That combined with my wisdom teeth coming through has kicked them all out of wack.

(I think that's been the main issue tbh. I've noticed more change in the past half a year than the entire 3 years before that..)

Just a degree or 3 here and there. More on the bottom row as my wisdom teeth are well and truly there now. Less on my upper teeth, but there's 2 front ones that are noticeable.

Would like to get them looking as good as they used to, but don't want to look like a braced teenager.

I like not getting ID'd for 18 movies. Haha.

Anyway, has anyone tried invisalign or have any experience with them? Are they very costly? I'd be willing to spend £1000. I don't think my case is very severe as I've had work done before.

Would I have to wait until after my top ones have fully breached the gums? If so, there's still a while yet and it's going to fk my front ones up even more.. :/

I've been thinking about Invisalign braces myself so hope to see some further feedback.

When looking at the prices actually quoted by local dentists for Invisalign they tend to be more expensive than standard braces and you will be looking at around 3,500 pounds in most cases so I would suggest your thousand pound budget is someway off the mark.

I'd be willing to get only the top ones done as they're the only ones that show when I smile/talk. I wonder if that would mean they'd cost less.

I only have 2 teeth out of wack on the top row, and like I said, they're only by a degree or two.

It's just a kick in the balls after having Hollywood teeth, haha.

If I book a consultation I'll reply to this thread with any details I pick up.

good idea..get a consultation and explain to them what you want to achieve..but my guess is not invisalign..

Total cost about £3.5K - FWIW they wanted £500 off me to start with & then its on a DD @ £100 a month so its manageable. I think most of them will work this way so you don't need to have all the cash at once....

You could probably afford an inman aligner. Not quite a subtle as invisalign but cheaper.

Out of interest, is there a reason it's not getting done on the NHS?
I am assuming your daughter is under 18 though.

Doesn't qualify - you have to look like something out of "Deliverance" before the NHS will cover it.

Edit: You should have made her talk to her GP about how her teeth are causing her to feel really bad yadda yadda. Soon would have got them done on the NHS.

Will bear that in mind for #2 because I reckon he's going to have to have something done too in due course.

ISTR the OD telling us that the "overbite" - the gap between the top & bottom front teeth (i.e. how much further forward the top teeth are than the bottom ones) has to be over 10mm before you are eleigible for NHS treatment. My daughter's was about 8 I think (now 2-3 after the Dynamax thing)

I think I had a really crowded mouth. I can't really remember.
I had 4 teeth out before they put on my braces.

Not sure about overbite, but I naturally have an overbite. Maybe it was over 10mm.

Definitely try and go for the mental trauma route with your second kid. Use onions if you need him to cry.

4mm on NHS...as far as I know...any one tooth out of line by 4mm allows it to be done on Nash...only if orthodontist wants to do it of course!!!!

Also sounds familiar. Again, didn't quite qualify

Even private OD's bill stuff to the NHS though where it can be. If she could have billed the NHS for the work (instead of me ) ,the OD would have done so.

I'm about 6 months through my Invisalign treatment at the moment. Initially wanted an Inman aligner but my teeth were too wonky! I had basically buck teeth on my uppers and twisted and pushed back teeth on my lowers because I sucked my thumb when I was a kid (got some photos somewhere which I'll post up if I can find them).

It's absolutely fantastic - you can't really tell I have my aligners in and I'm bad in that I tend to only wear mine at night yet my teeth are moving at the anticipated rate (you are meant to wear them 23 hours a day).

After the initial appointment you get casts taken of your teeth and these get sent to the US. After about a month you are then sent a video of how your teeth will move over the course of the treatment, along with how many aligners you will need plus any attachments & teeth filings you require. My aligners are each worn for 2 weeks at a time before swapping for a new set and I only go back to the dentist if my teeth need filing or they need to fit some new attachments - they only take fractions of a mm off if you do need your teeth filed (so there's enough room in the mouth) and my attachments are to help untwist my teeth and pull a couple of teeth down so they are level.

My full treatment plan is about a year long and I get free whitening thrown in (I have badly discoloured teeth because of antibiotics). The aligners initially make your teeth ache for the first couple of days and then you don't notice them. I think I'm paying about £1800 all in? Prices seem to vary hideously so I'd definitely shop around - if you are near Essex, I would definitely recommend the Advance Dental Clinic as they have been fab for me.
