The OH had a tooth removed last Friday, but the dentist couldn't get the root out. He is off to the hospital Friday morning to have the root removed. What do they do to get the root out? He's not the best with dentists and the swelling has only just gone down and he is still taking painkillers, so is it going to be bad?

I had 2 x root canals last week, was a walk in the park to be honest, well, after I had 4 wisdom teeth out and 4 adult teeth out in 1 go anything seems easy now!

He'll be just fine.

Root canal not the same thing.

OP, it shouldn't be any different to the original extraction. Local anaesthetic, probably a small incision in the gum and then lots of pressure/movement whilst they coax the root out.

Frankly, the amount of unsubtle nonesense spouted on these forums is disgraceful, especially on a health forum. You should be ashamed to suggest such a thing. furious

They'll use one of these:

Heh, heh or just very thin...

Stacey, I forgot to add (seriously) that in addition to the above they may need to remove a little bone around the root. This is done with a motorised handpiece and it just vibrates a litte like having a filling done.

Hope it all goes well smile
