I've got 4 weeks until I go on holiday, and want to be looking as good as possible
I'm a member of a gym with most equipment I'd need in it in plus a pool, just down the road. I also have a swiss ball, 2 5lb dumbells, 2 3lb dumbells, a mat etc at home.
What's the best plan? Lots of cardio to drop a few pounds is my main aim, but I want to tone up too. Any ideas please people?

As everyone knows, 'before' pictures are required for tailored individual plans. This will allow you to keep track of progress, with the members of PH giving you 100% unbiased feedback.
If you had any stalking skills, you'd already have her picture. Creep.ShadownINja said:

Well, just increase your cardio and weight work a notch or two. Pretty much anything to make any serious difference in 4 weeks is going to be bad for you, either in terms of long term health or physical injury.I'm a member of a gym with most equipment I'd need in it in plus a pool, just down the road. It'll be linked in her profile as a recent post, if you're that interested.

Oh, a lady asking for fitness advise, best ask to see photos of her, that'll raise some smiles.
I think she was feeling sorry for you, so just went along with it.

2-lb and 3-lb weights wont do any good what so ever.
Lift some proper weights. Bench presses, curls, dips, squats, etc.
That's the only real way to tone. Toning is, as far as I can tell, just gaining a bit of muscle and losing a bit of weight. Lifting heavy weights mixed with some cardio will do this. If you're not overweight in the first place you might get away with just lifting weights.
"But I don't want to become a huge steroid monster".
Guess what. You won't. Those horrible looking menwomen body buidlers get that way by eating a fkton and lifting serious weight 5 times a week for hours at a time for years.
You wont one day look like that when you wake up. Those women work really hard to look that bad.
In short, lift heavy weights.

Thanks for all your advice. What would a 'heavy' weight be for me?
If I'm going to spend say an hour in the gym, what would be the best kind of split in that hour? 40 mins cardio, 20 mins weights?
Spent 1hr in the gym on Thurs and Fri, about 30mins interval training on the treadmill (I hate running normally, but that's great), 10 mins on the bike (hurt my knees so stopped), 15 mins cross-trainer on a high level then 1000 metres on the rower on level 7/10. I felt weak afterwards but didn't ache the next day, so maybe I need to increase the intensity?

You'll get enough of a toning effect from the cardio, particularly if you alternate rower/running.
Diet will have the biggest impact. Avoid any snacks or alcohol and keep carbs low/protein high (Atkins style).
If you want to use weights, then ask a gym instructor to show you barbell squats and turkish get ups. These are full body moves and very time efficient.

Picking up on Frankeh's comments - you have no worries about becoming one of the carnival freaks. Many people would frown at one of Britain's best figure models, Louise Rogers, when she's in competition condition. But that's after years of hard work building and preparing for the competition season then 8-12 weeks of intensive dieting. Eleven months of the year she just looks fit-as-fk, it's just the photos taken when she's at her 'peak' that scare many off.
When you see even the elite fitness and figure models in off-season your jaw still drops, just not in a OMG way. For me it's the professional female body builders that take it too far IMO - same with the blokes though. I can almost understand it, but when you see them unable to walk or even stand properly because their frame is no longer big enough to carry the muscle bulk comfortably I have my doubts.

Weight is irrelevant, it is just a number. Intensity is what matters and if a woman has never lifted a weight before then 3lb dumbells might be deemed heavy Lift some proper weights.

My 4 year old cousin could curl 3lb. They are absolutely useless for everything.
