Been a while since the missus and myself have been to the dentist. Suprisingly, we've taken good care (or believe we have) of our teeth so aren't a Jeremy Kyle watching muppet with black stumps...

I've insurance (Denplan extensive plus if it matters) via work which entitles us to £x treatments per year. I've been shortlisting some (private) dentists nearby.

Is it a case of us finding one, making an "initial examination" appointment and going in with our policy document and telling him (I'll use the term he, could quite possibly be a she, or perhaps both/neither!) what we'd like done, and him saying you need the following work done?. Does he give us a quote for the work?

I understand what happens next, we pay then claim it back, it's just the first bit - I don't want to look like a tool.

Ring Denplan and ask: they're more likely to give you the correct answer.

Call up, complete any registration process they have, make an appointment for a check up (and hygienist visit if you feel like it).

They will charge you X amount and then tell you what else you need doing

They may also clean your teeth at the exam which will cost some money.

I think you will need to have a full check up before any kind of insurance will cover you for anything. Check the small print.
