Any doctors in the house???

Yesterday my wife was feeling a little faint, I held her whilst she recovered. Suddenly she started shaking and when i looked at her face she was completely white and her eyes were wide open but she was not concious.....
I lay her on the ground, and was about to start cpr as i thought she had actually died(!), when she cam round, and knew nothing of what had happened.
I have seen people faint before but this was very freaky, i was sure she had bad turn and was passing away! Still in shock..... is it normal? or normalish?

rofl I would have been shocked if the OP was a regular poster, but to actually register an account - and post the next day FFS - after your wife fainted in those circumstances is anothing thing entirely!

thanks for the constructive replies....
of corse she has been to the hospital, where after a check up they say all is fine and not to worry!! I was merely asking if this is in fact normal??? as it didnt seem normal to me at the time!!

But yes you are right..... what was I thinking asking advise on a motoring forum in the heath matters section where there are in depth discussions about pregnancy difficulties etc.........

Nice bunch!!

Bear in mind that I'm not a doctor, but that sounds very much like a neurological problem. Got a sister with a mild form of epilepsy and had a housemate who was going through that exact thing starting, I.e. Feeling odd, then fainting with her eyes open and shaking slightly, again, neurological, but they never got to the bottom of it before I lost touch with her.

I'd say go see the gp and see if they'll send her to a neuro, dropping into a&e will always result in "Are you about to die? No. So bog off home." type responses regardless of what you/they should actually do.

"At first glance you can tell something is wrong when a person passes out with their eyes open. Most people will faint with their eyes closed. A person with their eyes open may have had a sudden shock and paralysis of their body where they are unable to shut their eyes. They may have suffered a rapid intense pain throughout the chest and suddenly died from a heart attack or a blockage in a branch connected to the heart or they may have had a clot. "

Don't mean to scare you but found this with a quick google.. Obviously Google will have loads more answers but this was the first return.

What can I say, the man has taste. Even drives a black MX-5 hehe

@ the OP. Sounds like a trip to your GP is in order, accompanied by yourself to voice your concerns!

What you have described sounds remarkably like epilepsy (there are various types) Maybe have that checked out.

I did this when I wasd pregnant. I lost all the feeling in my right hand side at that time. I have no idea what i t was but there is something worrying about it as my consultant literally ran out of the room to consult a neuro specialist. I can't remember what he thought it might be but it wasn't that!

I do it and have done for 40+ years. Had many test over the years but all they can put it down to is 'it's just you'.

It happens if I go into a hospital (sometimes at the doc's and even the vets), I have learnt to live with it, spot the signs and get out!
My hearing goes a bit 'funny' and then my sight goes slowly black then I wake up with people making a lot of fuss!
It is hell trying to get out of a hospital when your having to stop every 10 yards to put your head between your legs. The staff just want to keep you in there!

I have had two tonic/clonic seizures this year(unconcious, shaking, foaming at the mouth, don't know where I am when I come out of it or even my wife's name). Your wife's symptoms sound like what is termed a complex partial seizure:

http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/seizures/ataglance...

It may of course be something else, but you need to get her to go to her GP and get a referral to a neurologist. You should go with her to describe the symptoms exactly. If it happens again, start a diary. Triggers for seizures can be drugs, alchohol, low blood sugar, stress, menstruation and dehydration.

The bad new is, that if it was a seizure, then she should not drive and should surrender her license. Your GP doctor may suggest that she does not drive until she sees someone. He cannot report her though, but it will be on her medical record.
Details here: http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/driving/firstseizu...

You need to get this checked...if this happens when she is driving, then I don't need to tell you what the consequences could be.

If it's any help, my sister, when she was younger, had a horse.

Magnificent beast, 17 hands, dark brown, glossy coat.

She spent hours combing, grooming and tending to him.

This used to happen to him.

Initially it was heart breaking, but after a fortune of vets bills, weeks and weeks of observation, alternative therapy and advice, we had him shot.

Hope this helps.........................
