science in sport drink, mixed with.....

first off, not sure if this should be here, sports forum, or food and drink forum so mods, please move if needed
i've been using the SIS PSP22 drink on and off for a few years now, and it's brilliant. just wondered whether it'd be ok to make say 500ml of the stuff and crush up and dissolve a pro-plus tablet in there for a caffeine kick too....kinda like the caffeine lucozade drinks out there. or is this pointless?
cheers.

Why are you drinking it? what are you trying to achieve?
just using it for the long runs of about 15 miles+. not for anything shorter than that. i just find out on the long runs if i just take water i start to suffer a little after 10 miles, and i never feel so bad if i take a drink like psp22 with me.Different things work for different people. I've found that one brand doesn't necessarily work aross all nutrition needs.
E.G. I use the following:
- Energy drink: High 5 Energy Source Plus with caffiene (SIS doesn't sit well in my stomach)
- Gels: Clif Blocks (High 5 gels actually make me feel weaker, and Lucozade gels are revolting)
- Energy Bars: SIS Go bars (Zipvit and Mule just don't give me enough slow-burn energy)
- Revovery Drink: Zipvit Chocolate, or even Guinness (For Goodness Shakes recovery drink feels sludgy in my stomach)
Try out several brands when training and see what works for you.

It's not pointless - there's been various bits of research on the impact of caffeine on endurance.i've been using the SIS PSP22 drink on and off for a few years now, and it's brilliant. just wondered whether it'd be ok to make say 500ml of the stuff and crush up and dissolve a pro-plus tablet in there for a caffeine kick too....kinda like the caffeine lucozade drinks out there. or is this pointless?

Do a web search.
IIRC the optimum amount in terms of mg caffeine / kg body weight for me was about two cans of Red Bull (this was when I weighted just over 80kg).
I take a couple of pro-plus about an hour before long races. Last significant one was Bramley 20 2009 where I finished 2nd in 1:48:20 (I think). Felt pretty good on the start line and took two gels during the race at 9 and 14 miles.
I'm sure SIS do gels with caffeine in them, so I'm surprised there isn't a powder drink from them with caffeine too.

i'm moving away from shorter stuff as i enjoy putting in big miles. did 13 at the weekend (very hilly - over 350m vertical climb...) and felt fine afterwards. even did 5 the next day the 13 was in a leisurely 1:38 though
