I used to find that I would'nt be tired in the evening and push myself to bed about 23:30 and lay awake till around 1:00. I just could not get to sleep. Then have to get up for work at 6.30, leaving me feeling tired all week - till the weekend when I could sleep in late.

For some reason it just took me ages to fall asleep.

Well, this week I have stopped drinking tea & coffee in the evening and it has worked wonders. I've actually felt tired enough to go to bed at 10.30, I now fall asleep straight away and slept all the way through.

Today is a day off work for me, which usually means catching up on sleep till about 10am, but, because I've had a full nights kip every day this week, I was fully awake at 7 and ready to do stuff.

I know it sounds obvious but how many people have actually tried not drinking tea/coffee in the evening? (I've bought some decaf bags for when I need a brew!).

Nice one, bet that feels nice! I find a late evening coffee and I'm ok but if I have a tea anytime after 5:30 I am doomed! Tea is evil smile

I found not being able to play Battlefield 2 until 1am does it for me as I'm not in a state of panic when I turn the lights off. biggrin

I avoid anything with caffeine in after about 2pm unless i actively want to stay awake late. Not only does having caffeine too late stop me getting to sleep at the right time, i get a poor quality sleep.

I have suffered from the same problem for years, but recently cut down to just one cup of coffee in the mornings. Its really helped me get off to sleep quicker and relax although im not saying its easy expecially when there is a free vending machine at work.

2pm!!! What time do you go to bed, usually? 6pm when your mummy tucks you in?

Don't be a cock, you know that people metabolise it at different speeds. I often don't sleep well because of pain stuff but if I've had coffee after 5ish then there's no point even trying til midnight.

Nearly 10 years ago I stopped drining team and coffee and had a really bad headache for 3 weeks. Then it went overnight and since then I've been able to sleep much better (from 4 hours a night to 6ish) It does not work for everyone, but it worked for me

It's not something that works for everyone. Different people have different levels of sensitivity to caffeine and affects them in completely different ways.

With or without coffee, once or twice a year I'll have a week or two where nothing I do lets me get to sleep and stay asleep for a proper length of time - Just goes away after a short time.

Normally, I could drink four espressos worth of caffeine after dinner and still go to sleep within 5-10 minutes of my head hitting the pillow.

I was going to suggest the same. I have a very cheap MP3 player with cheap in-ear phones and listen to lots and lots of audio books and BBC comedies as well.

They may only be 30mins long but I have never heard to the end.

I only have 1 coffeee in the morning and that's it...yet it takes me hours to get to sleep. I've resorted to all kinds of pills but they don't work, so I just have to go with it and accept I'll spend the rest of my life tired!

tend to drink coffee at weekends and that is only in the morning, other times it is herbal teas and green tea, I use proplus whilst driving as it can help and seems more effective as not using caffeine all the time

if tired and up early it is bed by 10-11 max smile
