No... Not the meat & two veg!

I'm after recommendations for good baby kit. We've got a John Lewis Nursery list on the go which has a lot of stuff but I'm planning to have a bit of a spend at the Baby Show this weekend before opening the list up to family.

The first mine field seems to be Baby Monitors. Sound, cameras, nightlights, pressure sensitive mats etc! Peace of mind is obviously important, but what have you found useful or useless with your baby monitors? What products/features would you recommend?

Temp gauge, movement monitor (pressure / heart beat). That's about it really.

You can spend a lot of money on piece of mind, think before you buy though, how much will an item help YOU and how much is a gimmick and costly expense.

Think my friend is there on a stand, fingerprint jewellry (sp?!), well worth a look smile

We have a BT150 IIRC which does everything we want. Costco do them about £15 below retail if you're a member.

The movement thing was a new discovery for me today. Room temp and sound had been the only must haves prior to that.
What model did you use?

Look at the BT monitors. Far better than most around. Cameras are OTT IMHO. Beware of pressure stair gates "spreading" your stair posts. Ours are all on the piss now and I have bought fixed ones instead. One of the best child high chairs are the Ikea £10 plastic ones, and spend the £5 extra for the tray. All plastic, and EASY to clean. ( My otherhalf wanted some fabric covered egg thing at +/- £200 FFS. )
Also, we had a quinny Buzz 3 in one pram thing. Brilliant. Car seat fits the frame so no moving a sleeping baby into a different carrying device. As soon as they grow out, we sold ours and bought an Out & Out. Again, really good and very foldable. Also, make sure you have some form of sheet under the high chair to catch everything as it hits the floor. For good car seat covers and clothing and really useful things like changing table covers and alsorts, check out www.angelliving.co.uk and look at koeka. We first saw it in Holland and couldn't get over the practicality of it. Most car seats are a nightmare to clean. Pop a cover on it and then it can go in the wash. Simples!
As they get to one-ish, the best toy we ever bought was a plastic shell shape sand pit / ball pit and filled it with plastic balls. Yes they end up everywhere, but she goes back to it time and time again.
Last thing. One of the most practical things is to have a dimmer in the childs room, ideally on remote so you can control the light as and when you need it.
Over all, good luck, step back sometimes and enjoy it all. You house won't be yours for much longer!
