My 4 month old son has been on the breast since birth and now when he is feeding he will stay on for a couple of seconds then pull off and get very worked up and cry.
This has been going on for about the last three weeks.
He is starting to teeth but I dont think this is related.
As soon as he is put in the position to feed all hell breaks loose.

Anybody had any experiences with this sort of thing?

Is your partner still producing enough milk? Or has she thought about expressing (not as convenient, but may be an answer?)

I breast fed for 17 months, but never had any problems thankfully.

Same thing happened with Number one son

Depending on exactly how old baby is, it might well be time to start thinking about solids....

We are pretty sure there is plenty milk as he can sometimes be like this with a bottle.
We have introduced some pureed fruit already which he loves its just when he need to take milk he struggles.
He seems to act like he needs it but when hes on he just gets agitated and he has to come off.
I cant help thinking he is not getting enough but my other half is insisting there is plenty!

Its probably one of these thing there is no answer to and he will grow out of it as soon as it came on.

baby could well be fustrated the milk isnt coming quick enough. Can you get yor wife to express a little just a few secs before feeding to encrage the letdown reflex? Alternativly she could try feeding him a little earlier than he might anticipate.

It is massivly unlikly that there is not enough milk. If she has been feeding exclusivly there will be enough. It may simply indicate a growth spurt and baby wants the milk NOW!

Ask your other half to change position, maybe lie down. Take him to a quiet room with no distractions. My little girl thought the world was such an interesting place at 4 months and she would only feed somewhere quiet.

He does seem to be getting more alert all the time so this could be a factor.

This also sounds worth a try, It could be a growth spurt as, to me it does seem like impatiance!

Thanks for the advice. smile
