Evening Everyone

I have noticed in the last 6-7 months that I seem to lack any enthusiasm to do anything. To everyone around me it just seems like i'm being lazy and putting stuff off, but to be honest the thought of having to do anything at all seems like a great amount of hassle to me.

My g/f questioned me about this a few weeks ago and because of my lack of enthusiasm for the conversation we are now on a break frown

Let me give some examples of what I mean.

About 2 months ago I signed up to do a Carpentry and Joinery evening course at my local college. For the first few weeks i really enjoyed it, but now I am always looking for an excuse not to go.

I used to really enjoy working on my cars, doing them up, fixing them when I broke them, that sort of thing. But over the last few months the cars have just sat there untouched as I really cant be arsed to work on them!

Theres lots of other stuff just like the above and I cant seem to snap out of it. Tonight I have been invited out to 2 or 3 different places and the thought of having to get ready and then socialise with people doesnt interest me at all. But now that I am sitting here by myself I cant even be arsed to turn the Xbox to keep myself amused.

Does anyone else ever get like this? How do I snap out of it? Its doing my head in!

Cheers

Sammo

Well this pops up:
http://www.depressionuk.org/

It's a bit of a depressingly simple website...hehe

But actually have a google around for MIND and SANE and the Mental Health Foundation etc.

Indeed!

Seriously you're better off spending 5 mins with your GP and let them decide if your just a bit low or it's more serious. (If you don't like seeing your GP, neither do I. But I had to go show them something much more embarrassing. All you ahve to do is keep your trousers on and talk to them.) smile

it does sound a bit like depression - but -

do you get any exercise? - the less you do the less you will want to do. Force yourself to do some exercise and you might feel better.

What do you eat? Too much bread, pasta etc will make you lethargic. Eat some fruit & veg or drink some fruit juice.

Failing that - see your GP

Sounds a lot like depression. You will need to see your GP 1 way or another. May as well do something about it sooner rather than later.

PS good luck.

PPS Your op sounds scarily like me at the moment.

I'd also recommend seeing your doctor; ask to see another doctor if you're not sure about your current one. Possible explanations could range from stress/depression to just plain boredom- you may have just reached a stage where some changes need to be made! It may also be something physical so it's worth letting your dr do some blood tests.

Most importantly don't worry about it!

I have joined the college gym and been for the induction but thats about it. The idea was to go a few nights after work but I have never gotten round to actually starting.

I eat toast for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch every day. I eat quite a lot of greens (me and fruit dont get on very well)

The trouble with the gym is actually making the effort to go there! You could try getting yourself a good cross trainer at home. 25 minutes on it each day to whatever music you like turned up loud is enough to start with. You're more likely to do it if it's in your house and you don't have to spend time travelling. Although if you are at college that might not be possible.

Or do something with a friend - play badminton or something. You may be less likely to give up if it's arranged with someone else.

You could try some Omega 3 fish oil capsules. Good for brain energy levels & can lead to better physical health.

All of the symptoms of the OP describes I sometimes get and I have to say without fail exercise cures it, although from time to time I forget that and sink back to a low place.

So I'd agree with Bozibo that exercise can greatly help.

Pop in and see you GP, as said, it may be depression, I've been there, its really not fun!
Try setting yourself a target, like on monday say you WILL go to the gym and try to break out the routine your falling into.
Keep your eyes out for a better job, I know not many people love thier job but if you really hate it and its making you miserable it may be time for a change, although easier said than done in this climate.

I am 5ft10 and weigh about 14 stone. My weight has recently gone up and down a little bit but nothing drastic.

I drink plenty of water or orange squash over the course of the day. I rarely drink alcohol.

I tend to go to bed between 11 and 12 most nights, I have always tended to wake up quite often during the night, I then get up for work about 7.15.

Do you know why you are waking?

Do you drink tea or coffee? The Orange squash full sugar or an artificial sweetner? And how much are you drinking?

I would suggest a trip to your GP for some blood tests would rule in or out many things.

No particular reason for waking up. Its something I have done for as long as I can remember. Although sometimes I would put it down to being very hot. I am like a radiator most of the time!

I dont drink tea or coffee, and dont really drink anything with caffeine in it. The orange squash is no added sugar and I will tend to drink about 5 or 6 pints of it a day. I find the taste of water boring, hence the squash.

Put together all your sleep pattern details, your diet including what you drink, your lack of energy and pop to your GP for some bloods. An armchair diagnosis is no good to you.
