Bear in mind, I am a massive hypocondric and worrier.

Earlier in the year I had a bad cold. As ever with The Toad it went down onto my chest, became an infection and seemed to last an age. I have suffered from CIs for a while and although this wasn't the worst I've had, it did lead to hour long coughing fits in the middle of the night. These produce clear phlegem but have also send my saliva gland into overdrive. After some antibotics it seemed to clear itself up but as mentioned it took some time.

Now a few weeks later I have noticed I have an uneven heartbeat. It mostly seems to be at night but sometimes is occurs during the day (not often.) Its not the irregular heartbeat that they have on the BHF site, it sort of goes; beat-beat-beat_beat, beat-beat-beat_beat, beat-beat-beat_beat. So that the third beat is always uneven, that part of it is very regular. I've been to the doctor and he has done BP & pulse and they seem fine but he wants to do a heart trace and a cholestral test.
I know it seems bizarre but I don't really know if I have any other symptons. Certainly no bad chest pains or odd pains as such, the occasional dull ache though. The main trouble is I'm very unfit so wouldn't really know if those aches are just because I'm doing some exercise outside of whats considered normal. Because I live on my own I don't really see if my health is generally changing.

A couple of questions for the PH medical bods; Should I be worried? and could I actually have strained my heart by coughing? And if so will it fix itself? And should I not be making any holiday plans?

Omg don't say this. I've had a bad cough and nasty stuff coming up for about three weeks (got it immediately after shingles...) I was just hoping it'd go away!!

I had shingles and it does lower your immune system so be careful. My cough err... doesn't produce anything errr..... solid, its almost like saliva. Having had lots of CIs my advice would if you get a temperature get to the docs quick.

Nice website and an intersting business by the way. But talk about drinking in front of a thirsty man! You do realise that if there is something wrong with my poor heartsies those will be the first thing to bite the dust? smile

Vegetable cakes are very low fat and fruit cake is very good for the old digestive system wink
I'm still hacking away with the cough but enjoying the poor hearing as I can freely ignore people. Oh and the rabbits aren't bothering me with their cabbage breath either as I can smell nowt biggrin

(thanks for the thumbs up btw! business is going nicely and looking forward to a busy new year as many changes will be happening)

Hope you're feeling better soon. I know this is terribly hypocritical of me, but go and see the doctor smile

Each big spike is a heartbeat. Is this what yours does ?

If so read this, but don't st yourself, read the last line 1st !

Type 1 (Mobitz I/Wenckebach)

Type 1 Second-degree AV block, also known as Mobitz I or Wenckebach periodicity, is almost always a disease of the AV node.

Mobitz I heart block is characterized by progressive prolongation of the PR interval on the electrocardiogram (ECG) on consecutive beats followed by a blocked P wave (i.e., a 'dropped' QRS complex). After the dropped QRS complex, the PR interval resets and the cycle repeats.

One of the baseline assumptions when determining if an individual has Mobitz I heart block is that the atrial rhythm has to be regular. If the atrial rhythm is not regular, there could be alternative explanations as to why certain P waves do not conduct to the ventricles.

This is almost always a benign condition for which no specific treatment is needed.

Got to say that is the sort of thing but its more like two normal beats followed by two very rapid slightly weaker beats. Can't understand why it only happens at night though. Tried not drinking coffee but doesn't seem make any difference. Just have to wait until Tuesday I guess.
