Having it done at Optical Express in Aberdeen, was a bit resistant to go high street but actually doubt it matters as its the surgeon rather than the place and its def not cheap lol!! forget 395 per eye! can add a zero!! but hope
its worth it!!!!!
Its not just the surgeon, though thats an important consideration. Have you found out who the surgeon is?its worth it!!!!!

Optometrist is Scott McGhee he seems pretty clued up answered all my questions without problems (not that i have many)
Its very difficult to pick where to have this done!! moneys paid just one week to go!

I was going to get this done and had been waiting for my eyes to settle for ages and in the last 6 months my prescription changed from a -3.25 in both eyes to -2 and -3.25, left improving hugely for no apparent reason.
Seems like Im never going to be able to get them lasered if the eyes wont stay stable... God knows what would have happened if I had been lasered only for it to improve like it has done.

Unlike 968 I have absolutely zero specialist knowledge here but I would be a little worried by the claim that she has performed 37,500 laser procedures (one of her colleagues claims 68,000 ) and she is an opthalmic surgeon as opposed to a refractive surgeon.
Work that out, at 8 a day, 240 days a year that is 19.5 years. Now I am not trying to be negative about her, just question what 'performed' means in this context, how much actual involvement she has in the process. Personally if it were my eyes I would be looking for a surgeon who is a refractive surgeon, to know that they will actually be in charge throughout the whole process and I'd want to be confident that the equipment used was the best available. I'm not sure I would get that on the high street.

Actually, I agree with you. To be honest, I would never consider having surgery done by anyone that was not a specialist in corneal and refractive surgery and preferably was a consultant in the NHS as well as privately. I've recommended this approach to most people who have asked my opinion about this subject. Work that out, at 8 a day, 240 days a year that is 19.5 years. It is interesting that they claim to have done so many procedures. What is more interesting is what her complication rate is, and how she manages them. Of course, that will never be published, not least because these high street places almost never deal with the complications they produce, and often deny any responsibility towards them.
I understand what 968 means about surgery not being done 'on the high street', but I'm findng it impossible to do anything else.
Im Glasgow based, and cant find anyone that isn't one of the large high street places.
I understand that it's my own fault for not living in London or leeds.....

can you not just visit for a few days and justify it by saying its part of the treatment?Im Glasgow based, and cant find anyone that isn't one of the large high street places.

I had considered staying in a hotel for a day or two, but decided it was great in theory, but what about the aftercare?
Most surgeons want to see you a couple of days after for checking, but if there are complications?
There are also six monthly and subsequent check ups....
having said all that, I would really like to hear the experience of anyone here that has actually done this?

to be honest if you knew who was working on the brakes on your car you most likely wouldnt let them some 19yrs apprentice on your lambo you just never know whos doing what you put faith in the system (what choice do we have)
btw its 3300 for both my eyes
only time will tell i guess
You do have a choice, you can choose a Consultant Corneal and Refractive surgeon, who works within a well validated system and has trained in a well regulated system, unlike a lot of these guys who work for high street outlets.btw its 3300 for both my eyes

Optical Express did mine 7 years ago, think I paid around £800 an eye for LASIK. I went from minus 5.5 in each eye to better than 20/20, though I do now need reading glasses for VDU work as I'm a teeny bit long sighted.
After the work it took a couple of weeks to properly start to heal and I found my eyes getting tired very easily. Now though no problems at all apart from a little starbursting at night with things such as headlights or streetlamps.
Certainly something I'd recommend and IMHO it's the best purchase I've made in my life.
