So, I have been "persuaded" to enter a 10k race!

I have never really done anything like this before but am reasonably fit and if the competitiveness takes me I will run until my legs fall off! I have until april to prepare so plenty of time, does anyone have any tips/training advice?

April? You could train for a half marathon in that time!

Obvious advice would just be to build up slowly, as there is no need to rush.

Get some proper running shoes if you don't already have some.

Run on grass or soft surfaces where possible.

You'll probably find the training will go fairly easily and you'll be running a 10K before Christmas biggrin

Hi,
As above take it slowly and build up.

I only started running properly in February - at that time I could only run for about 2 minutes at a time. Massively unfit!

I initially followed one of the 'couch to 5km' plans like this:

http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/beginners/get-starte...

and then switched to the Bupa 10k intermediate plan:

http://www.bupa.co.uk/running/training/training-pr...

I finally cracked 10km in July, and can now run it in about 54 minutes...trying to get under 50.00!
