Any docs in the house know about this? have been diagnosed with it ( also called Familial dysbetalipoproteinemia and "Remnant removal disease")

doc says I have to cut carbs as i cannot process sugar. Does this mean fruit too as that is sugar? is it all sugar ie natural ones too?

any links for info about it as unusally i cannot find much on the interweb?

thanks

As I understand it it is a form of dyslipidaemia, charachterised by high "bsd" cholesterol or the IDL type. It is hereditary and increases your risk of heart disease and stroke due to narrowing of the arteries from fatty plaques.

It needs careful amangement and medication to reduce your blood lipids and you should be under a specialist lipid clinic. Statins and fibrates are likely to play a part and a good sensible diet. Reduce other risk factors, smoking is the main one.

You also need to be screened for diabetes and have you thyroid checked, but I am sure your GP has done that.

thks - saw a specialist yesterday who diagnosed me just by looking at my hands! I have been on v sensible diet for 2 years min as they were trying to see why my cholesteral was so high ( 11.7 last week ) which is why i ended up with the specialist.

she didnt want to use drugs yet as im on anti depressants but said to cut down on carbs and sugars eg alcohol. in the light of day today though am a bit confused what i can eat. Ive never smoked but did binge drink which is out now frown

Ask your GP to send you to see a dietician, they will explain things.
It is pretty likely you will need statins and fibrates though.
