I need some energy!!
Discussion
Since starting a new job I'm finding it difficult to get into a decent exercise routine and as such, haven't really done much at all in the last 8 weeks...pretty depressing for someone that usually goes 3/4/5 times a week!
I'm going to join a new gym this week, just round the corner from the train station that I travel from and aim to go 2/3 times a week straight from work. (I can fit a 5k lunchtime run in on a couple of alternate days)
My problem though and the reason I've struggled so much recently, is that I eat my lunch at around 1pm and a piece of fruit etc at around 4:30 but by the time I get home (7:15pm) I'm starving again and wouldn't be able to do anything meaningful at the gym.
I was thinking that if I could have a shake of some description an hour or so before I intend to train (whilst travelling home), I could head straight to the gym, do an hour, then go home and eat properly and hopefully get back into a decent routine.
My question for you PHers is this: Which shake (if a shake at all) should I go for?
I've had a quick scan of the myprotein site and there's a few recommendations but I could do with a bit more guidance as to whether I should be looking purely for carbs (most seem to be essentially from sugar) or should I get a carb / protein blend or should I just get through it riding a wave of caffeine etc and eat properly afterwards.
Any help and advise will be gratefully received.

A good line of coke should perk you up enough for a gym sesh.
I have a similar problem, but it's tiredness that stopped me going after work, finishing work at 8 when i start at 8 then going to the gym, just do not have the energy. I now go in the morning before work, any chance you could do the same? If not only thing i can think of (very limited knowledge ) is more fruit, apples/bananas.

Hi
I use MP stuff a lot. A shake is all good and well, but it probably won't fill you up as much as you want it to. You could give these protein flapjacks a try. They're not really flapjacks, but "oats and whey" bars. Very tasty IMO and really do fill you up. Good nutritionaly, and good value too (compared to other brands). The choc chip and choc peanut are both nice; the peanut ones a little softer and so easier on the jaw (require a lot of chewing).
If you fancy 5% off, use my code mp22002 at the checkout. I'll get some bonus points too
