Pub conversation turned to how to minimise time wasted in shaving. On discussing techniques one guy mentioned he doesn't use a mirror, in fact refuses to look at his reflection and won't have a mirror in the flat. He doesn't have a problem with using mirrors in the car, it's just his own reflection he can't stand. One of the girls offered him mirror out of her handbag and he put his hand over it to avoid seeing himself.

He doesn't seem deformed or disfigured in any way. The female concensus was that he certainly wasn't ugly, though wasn't particularly good liking either.

Has anybody ever heard of this condition before? It isn't a mirror phobia, just a phobia of his own reflection.

I don't think that's a phobia, it is was, he'd stagger back, as if he just looked at a freight train bearing down on him.

It's more of a dislike / confidence issue.

Explain how much fun we men have talking to ourselves and pulling funny faces every morning.

We do don't we?

It is "we" isn't it?

Please tell me I'm not the only one.biggrin

It's not weird. Sounds like a confidence issue and should be easy enough to sort out if he wants to. Snag is, he might not want to. It's part of who he is now and he gets attention from it. Bizarre thing, the human brain.

OMG I thought I was the only one!

I have got goosebumps just even thinking about them. I dont mind stickers on sheets of paper or anything just if they touch my skin. This makes life difficult as 3 and 4 year olds LOVE stickers and I have two of them :-(

Missus J has a morbid fear of wooden spoons which I think is a bit odd, I'm just scared of her which I think is reasonably normal.........

yes It's perfectly normal for people to have phobias, and the vast majority of them don't seem rational in any way. There was a programme on it last night actually - people had phobias of knees, bananas, buttons, you name it! This guy though sounds like he just really doesn't like seeing his reflection, other than having a true phobia.

I pull the funny faces but don't tend to talk to myself, but I think that's because I get moaned at if I wake her up frown

I don't talk to myself, but do often make myself laugh with stupid faces in the mirror if there's an opportunity biggrin
