Diet. Are you living on curry and kebabs, washed down with beer?
Stress. Are you having a difficult time at the moment?
Lifestyle. Do you grab meals at odd times of day, eat late etc?
If not, eat lots of chalk, five times a day!
Errrm, drink in moderation... and don't eat curries and kebabs that often. Work has been stressful along with the recent car crash I had which got me down for a bit. I tend to eat at your average times, but always miss breakfast as I never seem to have time in the morning!Stress. Are you having a difficult time at the moment?

Things which make it worse -
Smoking
Drinking
Being overweight
Eating certain foods, particularly those high in fat
Too much coffee or fruit juice
That may as well be the Five Horsemen of the Modern Era. Basically the 'standard' Bad Guys. You'd get the same diagnosis for gout!Smoking
Drinking
Being overweight

OP - I cannot believe you eat too fast so often to cause this for any length of time. You could try Gaviscon or similar, but I'd recommend you go see the quack.

Yes, quite!
I have a hiatus hernia, and unfortunately can confirm that my quack's list of sins is correct. Quitting the evil weed helped, though it also resulted in some weight gain, which didn't. Too much booze or certain foods and it flares up.
I mostly just watch what I eat and drink. I take rantidine for short term relief. If it flares up, I take omeprazole for a week or two until it calms down.

If I drink alcohol for more than a few days in a row and eat too much fatty food I get really bad pains in my upper stomach, just below the ribs. I can control it by eating well and not eating too late before bed though, so it isn't a worry. Once when I got back from a few days of fun in Dublin however, I was doubled over with it - was out of breath and in pain just walking, and had to just sit in a certain position or it really hurt. The doc said it was just stomach acid or an ulcer, but I hope I don't get it that bad again!

Is there any other reason than eating too fast that can cause this?
I've had it get progressively worse now for the last few months. I'm on a pack of rennies a day now! Not cool.
Stop eating for a bit or just have a small snacks. Let your stomach get empty and shrink.I've had it get progressively worse now for the last few months. I'm on a pack of rennies a day now! Not cool.
Lay off the rennies, I always think they mask the problem and can even make it worse.
Drink (sip) Water.
Stand up more often or go for a walk.
