Not many things worse than a tooth ache - I'd like to say 'I feel your pain' but, thankfully, I don't. wink
If painkillers are not deadening the pain, 'tis possibly an abscess. frown

It feels more 'inside' the tooth than out, assuming that's what an absess feels like? frown

Try oil of clove, it's very cheap, tastes foul at first but it does numb the area well. Also try a hot water bottle against your face.
I've just got over a badly infected gum after some root canal work :-(

Asprin & Oil of Cloves are the best temporary cure I have found.

Had an abcsess a couple of months ago, predictably started hurting on a Friday night, seemed to get worse all the way through the weekend. 3 days on anti-biotics sorted it out but it was a good 5 days of agony. I've heard throat lozenges are good left resting against the infected tooth, might be worth a try, personally I went for codeine and ibuprofen every couple of hours and trying to get comfortbale enough to fall asleep.

I had a back tooth abscess a few months ago - I jammed a just used tea bag up there and went to bed with a flannel guarding the pillow. Only temporary relief, but I did manage to get to sleep. Made a mess of the flannel though!
Antibiotics the next day - tooth out a few days later frown

How are you doing there k z? There will be an emergency on call dentist in your area if you can't wait.
Please don't hold an aspirin in your mouth over the tooth, you'll end up with a nasty chemical burn too

Not doing too bad cheers Rach, alternating Ibuprofen and Paracetamol and dabbing Clove oil on it as well

Cheers for all the tips, am off to Wings and Wheels today as it's better when I am distracted

Have an appointment first thing Tuesday morning smile

There is no pain worse than toothache. Just got over mine, I've got a tempory filling??? The bd dentist was sticking some weird thing in my tooth and yanking it to get rid of the nerve, I think he's pulled the tooth down a little because I can no longer clench my teeth. Got to go back for an extraction and a couple of fillings. Let us know how you get on OP and you have my sympathy.

After my abscess cleared, I had root canal twice and a crown is to be fitted on Thursday. The actual root canal work was totally painless, unpleasant but painless and all over in two 40 minute sessions. Just keep remembering how painful it is now and you'll welcome the work!! Total price on the NHS - £198!! Been told since I might have been lucky with a very good dentist. It'll be over soon OP.
