I wont go into massive details about why i need to take certain medicine, but after visiting my consultant recently, he proposed putting me on a higher dose of this particular medicine. He informed me he would write to my GP, and ask them to prescribe this stuff as he couldnt write me one due to hospital rules. This posed several problems
1) he has completely the wrong address, even after i told him my new address

2) the doctors cant prescribe this stuff, it has to come from the hospital in question

3) good luck getting a prescription, he's fked off for 3 weeks

4) cant speak to the specialist unit, its shut till monday

5) so now i have gone 3 weeks without this stuff due to his incompetence

God the NHS fills you with confidence

I'm still waiting for a cardiac referral from last year. I got one appointment which I assumed was with a cardiologist but it wasn't, and he claimed he couldn't refer me to one. So off I go back to my GP who was very confused by it all....but here I am 9 months later and still nothing.

So no perks for actually having to work withing this "organisation"!

I wouldn't mind, but my consultant passed me on to his registrar who, and i quote"would take equally good care of me"

Right okay, so he has buggered up one part of my medication, not listened, and now gone on holiday for 3 weeks. I sometimes wonder why people come to this country for free healthcare when on occasions it can be second rate

Usually i would agree with you, my health care from the NHS has, with the odd exception been exemplary, but having been passed to my consultants registrar to oversee my care, i have come to the conclusion that he is an idiot. From here on in, i can only hope he gets with the programme

I've had good and bad with the NHS.

Is there a PALS in the hospital where the prescription needs to come from. If so call them up and tell them you are feeling neglected, that you need special medicine and nobody is helping you get it. They will kick up merry hell and you'll probably get something done!

Sadly i dont think there is, but come monday morning, i am going to have to ring and speak to my consultant, who if i'm any judge of character, will be less than impressed, so hopefully it will be sorted by the end of monday.

So you've found one idiot, that doesn't make the entire NHS any better or worse does it.

No thats a fair point, but rather than being in the 'i could benefit from this' situation, i do actually need this stuff, and sadly i have ran out of it today, hence why i needed him to get it right first time. Ah well never mind eh

Is the new stuff different than the old and could you not manage on the old for a while longer, if of course you have any left that is, or go to you chemist for a repeat prescription if they do that service. At least this will tide you over for a couple of weeks until you can get the problem sorted.

it sounds like the OPs medication is on the red list for that locality i.e. prescribed only bty Hospital specialists and supplied through the hospital Pharmacy rather than community pharmacies.

Update time.
According to the GP it is on the red list, according to the specialist nurse it isnt as they have been issuing it for years, go figure.
Rang the docs secretary to ask her to organise a prescription at her end that i could go and collect from the hospital pharmacy. That was yesterday morning, and she promised to ring me straight back. I rang today, and she told me she had been trying to phone me.When i checked the details she had on file for me, even though i gave her my new address details and new phone numbers when i moved, she hadnt updated the system and so couldnt contact me. Nevermind, drove to sheffield, parked in the car park(which isnt cheap), went to the specialist unit, only to find the prescription wasnt there. She had passed the details onto someone else, who promptly lost them.
Finally sorted it out, after wasting 3 hours in the hospital, that had the consultant sorted out in the first place, i wouldnt have had to go through all this. I am beginning to wonder if i can be referred back to the specialist in doncaster, at least his staff are numpty's
