Our health club, David Lloyd has just installed these in the changing rooms, trumpeting about how "green" and efficient they are.

They don't seem to be very good, though. When I use them they seem slightly less efficient than a decent air dryer and much less efficient than paper towels. They also seem to blow a fair bit of spray back at the user and it is difficult not to touch the edges - which sort of defeats the point of a touchless system.

Anyone else found these things to be a bit style over substance?

They do work if you have steady hands and pull them out slowly. But they aren't better than e.g. the Mitsubishi versions. Or as good as a paper towel.

The people who rush their hands up and down and wonder why they are not dry ammuse me. I had to teach one of our guys how to use one. The bloomin instructions are right there!

Even so I find the tips of my fingers are still wet.

using the airblade as described in the instructions is considerably better than bug blower and up there with using one paper towel ( vs the 'scrubbing up' version which uses 4 paper towels ).

As opposed to the user, which appears to be the case with the Air Blade.

not in my experience.

I've used both, prefer the Dyson.

yes, but overall I prefer the old roller towels which had a seemingly hundred yard long towel in them...my Dad got hold of a couple of the towel rolls when his workplace binned the dispensers: they served as our source of garage rags for about 5 years. Wish I could get hold of some now.

I love Airblades, although a friend has one in his flat and it's too noisy for a domestic setting.
Moorfields hospital has the Mitsubishi which seems pretty much the same.
A local restaurant has the Xccelerator - which is fun

And I prefer them all to paper towels.

I was recently at a London engineering consultants who had put up the Blue "wear ear protection" signs above theirs.

Apparently the decibel level emitted by the units when in use is above HSE guidelines - hence they make it your risk to wear PPE when using it!!!

I think they work very very well though.

if I go all the way there and they just have towels with the ends sown together to make a towelling cylinder, I'll....I'll.....be disappointed.

I promise I have not tried it.

These came up in conversation at a boozy meal I was at recently, as they were fitted in the loos. Someone came up with the idea that they would be good for dangling your spuds into, as they are fitted at the optimum height. Just thought I would share that.
