Anyone else hit their head so hard...
Discussion
...lots of clear liquid came down their nose?
I hit myself over the head with a XL post basher. This is the third time I've done this, but the other two time where just when it slipped out of my hand. This time I was bringing it down with all my might, caught the edge of the fence post and brought it down on my head. About 3 seconds after I had lots of fluid from my nose for a few seconds, which then eased off to a constant drip for another 60 seconds or so.
Phoned NHS direct, I didn't have any of the serious symptoms, but advised me to go to A&E to be on the safe side. Closest A&E is quite a way away, so I'm just waiting to see if I get any worse.
Not come across the nasal discharge before though, which was the only thing worrying me.

[quote]Severe Head Injury: People may have some of the same symptoms as occur with minor head injury. Some, such as headache, may be more severe. Also, symptoms often start with a period of unconsciousness that begins at the time of impact. How long people remain unconscious varies. Some people awaken in seconds, while others do not awaken for hours or even days. On awakening, people often are drowsy, confused, restless, or agitated. They may also vomit, have seizures, or both. Balance and coordination may be impaired. Depending on which area of the brain is damaged, the ability to think, control emotions, move, feel, speak, see, hear, and remember may be impaired—sometimes permanently.
Clear fluid or blood may drain from the nose, ears, or both if a person has a fracture of the base of the skull (see Head Injuries: Skull Fracture).

get there now.
Hope it all checks out ok

Are you sure its that bad?
The clear liquid didn't small, I didn't pass out, go dizzy, vomit or answer yes to any of the other NHS direct questions. They said I didn't have any of the symptoms that would cause concern, but to go to A&E just to be sure.
It was about 2pm when I hit it and I feel fine.
I suppose you are now going to tell me not to drink this tin of cider I just opened

I've had that straw coloured stuff come out of my hooter without clobbering myself on the nut like you did. I'm no doc but that's happened once maybe twice, the last one was a good while back and I don't seem to be any worse off now. Sometimes you get it just by tipping your head forwards a bit too much like when you're washing your hair with a handheld shower or doin your bootlaces up at a funny angle. The worst thing of course is doin your bootlaces up in the shower.
It's a head injury and you have one of the signs of a skull fracture, even if you don't have any others.
I once banged my head severely while driving a Landrover off-road but felt perfectly able to drive, right up to the point where the passenger knocked my hands from the steering wheel and yanked on the handbrake. I had a mild concussion and, even though I thought I was driving and talking normally, I was in fact bunny-hopping the wagon around and slurring my speech.
My point is that someone with a head injury is the last person to give an objective view on their condition. Get to A&E and if it'd nothing then all you've lost is a couple of hours of your time.
Don't take any chances.

Cerebrospinal fluid would be a sign of a serious injury, but that stuff is supposed to stink. What I had was runny snot, like what you get on a cold day or cry.
When I crashed the bike I went blind in one eye for about 10 minutes, bad headache and tinnitus for a week. I went back to A&E halfway through the week for a head x-ray, they found nothing. I hit my head a lot lot harder then (granted I had a helmet on).
Nearest hospital is 20 mile away, unless I go by motorbike or ambulance I can't get there and I don't think its serious enough for an ambulance. I'll get the train down there 1st thing tomorrow to be 100% sure though.
