Am I a Specky Tw@t!!?

Ok, pking fun at myself here, not any others, and a reference to famous Viz character! So no offence.

I'm 40. Always had excellent eyes, but always been a little photosensitive so need ray bans on dull days outside etc. But pretty much A1 G1 Z1.

Last Feb I had a bit of a funny turn while in USA, I still suspect I'd been doped or drugged or something, felt very weird one day, ended up in A and E, cat scan, all clear. Came home to UK, saw a neurolgist, MRI all clear. I remeber for about 2 weeks after the "episode" I had terribel eye pain and seeming pressure behind my eyes. I had an Eye test done (early March 09)and they sawa very mild long sightedness, about 0.5 on both eyes.

Been OK since until a month ago when started to get a light headedness and a feeling of strain and pain around the bridge of my nose and each eye. OK in the morning, would hit me later in the day, but only for a hour or so. But it is still going on. I ahve had some Migrane tablets, (triptans) and even a course of antibiotics in case of an upper sinus infection, but still getting aching eyes, and light headedness.
So today, on Docs advice i have an eye test. I explain symptoms and the test shows R eye is now 1.0, left is 0.75. Great, I think, some reading glasses and I will be fine again..
So I go upstairs from the eye test bay to see the sales guy and he wants 350 sheets for some flippping specs!
So I call the missus who has specs and contacts for many years and she reckons that for 1.0 and 0.75, an optalmist would not even prescribe normally? I check out the ready specs range to see if I can try some bins and see if it helps, (I thought say 0.75 each or get a pair of 1s and a pair of 0.75 and take them apart for a hybrid pair) but I can only get min 1.25s where i have looked so far.
So I am thinking maybe it is such a low error, yo'd not normally need anythign for it?

Now dont get me wrong, I take my health seriously and if I need £350 specs, then I will get them. BUt i am not convinced it is the cause of my eye ache and dizziness/ light headedness, so I'd like to try something cheapo first, even if I do look like one of them kids who had a plaster on their NHS specs from the 70's!

So, so I need anything. Can I get some cheapies to try? Anyone any other ideas about this odd lightheadedness, (Its sporadic through the day and does feel a bit like i am crosseyed, even though I am not).

PS I tried some 1.25 ready specs in the shop and anything over about 3ft away was really blurry! Plus I looked a right twonk in them, they were bright red Deidrie Barlow's!

Try Boots.Also they have their own "Boots The Optician" thing going.

I got some 0.5's for about £3 a while back.Did the job.

Honestly the specs I got for £3 have meant I can read books again

comfortably,otherwise all was a bit blurry close up.All other aspects of my vision are fine.

Why do you think your lightheadedness is related to your sight?

Might be low blood sugar.Been checked for Diabetes?

I have nothing to add. Just the visit to A&E in America and they cat scan you.
What a joke. Oh he's got insurance, lets scan him, maybe MRI.

I worked in insurance, guy had a bump on the head. OrlandoBloom General Waspital took two CT scans and three MRI with no conclusions and sent him home to rest. Total bill $20,000+ which we contested. Whilst we contested this they appointed a swiss debt collection agency to chase the client for the bill. Took ages to sort that mess out.

Sorry, just been reminded of that and had to rant.

If you're not happy wearing glasses you can look into doing eye exercises, I know people who swear that they've helped improve their eye sight.

I did read about that a couple of years ago, some guy reckoned if you squinted a lot, you'll end up fixing your eyes...
Not sure it works though.

Not sure it works though.

The people I know who've done it used to wear glasses and no longer need them. It is more than just squinting, but I don't know the exact details as I don't need glasses (yet).

They liken wearing glasses to going to the doctor with a broken leg and being given a crutches instead of it being fixed.

Yes, all blod sugar seemed fine. Cholesterol a bit high, but no meds needed.

Had a rake of blood tests doen yesterday, liver, kidneys, bloodcount, etc etc and all came up clear.

Weird, but only had about 5 mins light headed today so feeling a bit better.

If you can find ready-readers that are about the £20 mark you will get something that is a lot better optically - I'm really fussy about lenses and reflections, colour aberrations etc drive me nuts. If you go the over-the-counter route it is worth checking out

The other side of this is getting a company eye test, mine paid for my reading glasses and recommended some bi-focals(FFS, it makes me feel ancient!), these are .75 and 1.75 I think but drive me crackers with the blurry bit down the middle and very narrow 1.75 section.
