I once stopped up all night (ooo go me) to watch them building part of the International Space Station, and ended up a trapped nerve in my neck that sounds very similar to what you have. The GP prescribed Diclofenac as above, but I found that for some reason Ibuprofen worked better, although exercising helped. It wasn't really painful as chuffing annoying, and hence stupidly tiring.

I made a mistake yesterday after Russian version of Iprobufen satchet did fk all to kill the pain , got a Russian colleugue to massage my kneck .....hes a bit of a big chap , made the mistake of telling him to "get Russian "bstd nearly took me kneck off ........made it a lot worse ..so visited the medic
Work medic , his opinion is Shoulder is inflammed .......not bloody surprised cheers Vlad !!should settle down in 3-4 days , inflammation is pressing against the nerve causing the pain down my arm
he given me an injection , think it might be an anti inflamitory seems to have eased the pain ,,,,not sure how long it will last , having a second injection tomorrow ...
Pinched or trapped nerves in the neck area can cause pain down the arm to fingers but usually numbing or numbness. Anyway with 'pain' down the arm, this could be something else so I would see a doc.
But IF it is trapped neck nerve, then gentle physio can work wonders - it did for me. To remove the pinching of the nerve (I've had it more than once quite bad) I was told to tilt head to left (towards shoulder) 6 times, then same to the right. Pull chin in for just 3 seconds 3 times (apparently opens up the neck vertebrae/muscles. Neck felt like it was going to creak and crack in half!
Then arms straight down against side, lift wrist/hand to point rearwards, hold for count of 20. You can feel it pull and do good. Do each side 3 times. I did this a couple times a day.
I thought it was a bit cranky... until gradually I could feel the pain and numbness disappearing!
No, I'm not a physio. But hey, this worked for me. So no guarantees nor am I advising you to do it.
