last thursday I awoke with what felt like a strained muscle in my back - hurt like hell if I bent down or twisted, despite not having done anything remotely strenuous in the past week or so.

on thursday evening I began having mild pain in my lower waist area which has stayed with me all weekend (back pain cleared sunday) and is particularly discomforting this evening. feels like bloating / trapped wind but with occasional stabbing pains.

I don't have a gp so have been taking windeze for 3 days to no avail. I'm not constipated but need to urinate more often than is usual.

i am not overly anxious about it but it isn't comfortable and am not sure what it might be due to. at what point should i ditch the windeze and bother a professional? can anyone recommend something that may help?

Buscopan is good for stomach cramps.

good answer!

I was sold buscopan at the chemist earlier as i have been in a lot of pain today. also passed the nhs drop-in centre so have seen a doctor, who said there wasn't anything wrong that he wouldn't prescribe buscopan for.

0845 4647. NHS Direct. http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/ Or book an appointment with a GP.

Anyway, for the PH noob diagnosis, can you pinpoint the pain? Urine ok colour? Does it burn when you pass urine? Could be a urinary tract infection - bladder, kidneys or urethra. NB I have no formal medical qualifications so could be bad aids?

http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/urinary-tract-infecti...

Edit: apparently more common in women... do you have a vagina? biggrin

Ok plan 2.

If Buscopan doesn't work (it's meant for IBS) try and find some co-codamol(codeine/paracetamol)

Back to docs tomorrow..did you google Kidney stones? stabbing pains, lower back...

You say sitting, driving, is agony. Is it easier and get relief standing? You said initially pain was in low back. So seems pain is in your trunk area?
Could be spinal disc trouble... (I'm no doc but 5 years of this has taught me a lot!)

When a disc ruptures (doesn't slip, that's a misnomer) it can press on nerve(s) and then it's f..... agony time!

See if you can stand on one leg, then lift up so on toes only and try to balance. If you can't balance go and see doc.

back pain was a red herring, that wasn't related. what I'm dealing with is severe cramps & occasional shooting pains across my lower abdomen. any position bar standing is uncomfortable, sitting in a driving seat just plain hurts. soaking in the bath is my only relief.

How old are you? Hernia pain can do that.

When I had one, it was like a sheer stabbing pain just underneath and to the side of the abs. The only thing that is different is that mine hurt like fk when standing up, but after 5 mins sitting down it was fine for a couple of hours.

You don't have to have done any strenuous exercise or lifting either, and contrary to popular belief, you won't notice a lump (of intestine) in the happy sacks straight away. It can take time to work its way down there.

There's a test the doctors can do, it involves drinking something that shows up on an x-ray, then waiting for it to go through your system so the docs can see if your lower intestine is taking any unplanned detours down meat and two veg alley.

Appendicitis?

Sounds nasty whatever it is.

I did think appendicitis but it shouldn't affect how much you urinate, should it?

feeling much better today. still hurts but nowhere near the same intensity.

I had a hernia as a small boy, I know what that feels like (not as bad as the first few days after the repair!)

still not cleared up frown had the odd twinge the past few days but had thought it was very much on its way out. today has seen a comeback suggesting something is definitely wrong.
