Howdy do peeps.
I'm hoping someone with the knowledge will be able to explain and or advise on some trouble I've been having while at muay thai class.
I live in Dubai and (because we're all f-ing hardcore) we train outside. Usual temperatures during our two-hour sessions (after sunset) are between 38 and 45C.
I try to make sure that I always have a decent lunch before the class, and drink several litres of water both during the day and throughout the class (along with sips of Gatorade), but unless there's a decent breeze I find myself overheating. And more so than anyone else in the class, even the beginners.
While I work hard I don't generally feel overly out of breath or like my muscles are about to collapse, but I go all light headed and wobbly of limb. I often throw up too.
Usually after relaxing for about 10-15 minutes I feel fine again, start training again, but the same thing can happen again if I'm not careful.
I don't know much about physiology and wotnot - the closest I can equate the feeling to is that I'm an ageing Alfa that has to stop at the side of the road every five miles with steam pouring from the bonnet.
Can anyone suggest why this is happening to me and not others, and what I can do to stop it? It feels like it's getting in the way of exercise that ordinarily wouldn't cause me too much bother.

Your age may be part of the heat problem.

And don't eat lunch an hour or two before a class! That probably explains the vomiting problem.

Could you spray cool water on yourself intermittently? (Use a plant sprayer filled with tap water and some ice in it.)

Cheers guys.
I'm only 30, so I wouldn't expect to be falling apart just yet.
I generally eat about six hours before I exercise - I only seem to chuck up water.
Guess it might just be the way I'm built then - might try taking a cool bag of cold compresses with me tonight!
ETA: I sweat like an absolute beast, but it's so hot and humid that maybe that ain't enough. I like the idea of an iced plant sprayer. Perhaps more practical than lugging a fan about!

Oh, right, just that you wrote that you have a decent lunch before class... do you gulp down water because of the heat? Perhaps you could try sipping less more regularly to avoid too much being stored in the stomach?










Have you tried TKD instead? getmecoat

I meant that I eat a decent meal, rather than go into it having only had a sandwich that day or something.
Yeah, might try and keep the water levels down...

If your stomach has loads of stuff in it, when you're twisting, you will feel sick whether you're doing MT, yoga or belly dancing.
