I'm Heading to Cuba tomorrow morning and was going to take some codine based medicine with me (had a knee op a few months ago and im conscious that they have little medicine over there if i damage it again). However, it's just occurred to me that taking an opiate into Cuba might end in me spending an extended vacation in one of Castro's jails!

So, Paramol and dihydrocodine (30mg)... Are they ok to take abroad, through customs?

Get a letter from your doctor to say that you need the medication and keep a list in case you lose it or need to get more during your stay
List the proper names of the medication - not just the trade names. Keep it in its original packaging.

You may need to check with the Embassy or High Commission of the country you are visiting in case they have any restrictions on taking your medication into the country.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is responsible for foreign affairs. The travel section of their website contains information for anyone planning a trip overseas and has information by country.

It tends to be Muslim countries that are hardline on opiates. Have you tried the embassy?

All I got was 'it depends on the amount' which was little use. My doc is doing me a letter this afternoon so hopefully that will cover me.
