To cut a long story short Ive had a number of operations on my ankle as a result of an initial achilles tendon snap.
Of the carnage that is now my ankle, there is a small bit that doggedly refuses to heal and gets gradually larger over time.
Initially the consultants best guess was that there was a piece of necrotic tendon floating about that the body was trying to eject. He operated and cut out the bit that wouldn't heal and re-stitched the whole lot, but yet again it is opening up in the same spot.
THis has been going on for about 9 months now.
ANyone have any experience of this type of thing?

Scar tissue?

Mate of mine fell off his motorbike and now has kind of dark, bumpy areas on his knees that are susceptible to opening up when he plays sport etc.

I will ask him what the doc said about it.

Got any pics? My mrs is a community nurse and deals with wound care quite a lot. I could get an opinion for you if you like?

I assume they've checked for infection?

And your shoes aren't rubbing?

Niether. There have been infections along the way, but that isn't the current issue. I have cut the backs out of my shoes for the time being, so its not that iether.

I heard a discussion on the radio the other day where a caller spoke about someone who had an operation on their ear lobes. It appeared to heal, but kept breaking out into sores.

The doctor told him that it was his glasses that were irritating the scar tissue (even though they did not seem to be irritating him) and causing the sores to appear. Once he switched to contact lenses the sores did not come back.

I'm not sure how this may help you, but I've typed it now.

I had a wound that wouldn't heal (suspected Spider bite) - and turned out to be Staph infection - took ages to clear up and then heal frown

After a little research, either stop smoking or get checked for diabetes.

Fine. NOt the best, but it won't be that. Everything else heals. It is just one very specific area that refuses to. For example- I have a 12 inch scar down my arm from the same operation and that healed perfectly within a couple of weeks.

Funnily enough that was the infection that caused all the complications in the first place but is not the reason for its continued refusal to heal.
