Have gradually lost 6 kg over the last few months, eating sensibly etc.. I do excercise (Mountain biking) around 3 or 4 times per week for at least 60 mins per session. But can I lose the spare inner tube I carry round my waist? Or my double chin... no!

I am mid 40's. Limited alcohol during the week.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Diet is pretty good, no bread, limited dairy products, low fat generally (due to Cholesterol reading)...

The 1000 calories is not sustainable, so whilst you are doing it you need to put on muscle which will help to increase your metobolic rate, it really is important to keep a food diary to shift that last little bit.

Oh and don't skip meals, it slows the rate down, the other thing that worked for me was making sure I ate enough fibre about 40g a day, some of the fat in your liver is absorbed by it and then it gets taken away rather than moved to the body for storage.... as I understand it, but stand to be corrected on that.

Try using a heart rate monitor, you need to get you heart into the fat burning zone, not easy if you are not very fit as I found to start with, you need to work at around 65% of your maximum heart rate, rough calculation, 220 minus you age gives maximum heart rate, when I first started brisk walking was enough to get me to that level.

How much water are you drinking?

The excersie bit certainly gets the heart rate up.. I consider myself to be reasonably fit.

On the water - how much should I be drinking per day?

Water varies considerably, depending on exercise, heat of the day plus fruit and veg consumption, so I always go on the colour of my urine rather a specified amount, aim for a straw yellow colour.
