had a similar problem with my dad, he was in hospital with pneumonia which lead to M.E. once out (he's a really pro-active sort) he found it really hard to do nothing, and then so frustrating that he physically couldn't do as much as he wanted.

fortunately my parents were mid-late 40's so the answer we found was firstly for me to chip and do all i could. also my mum did as much of the proactive things my dad did to limit what he felt "needed" doing. i guess it helped keep her mind off things as well.

as far as the holiday is concerned (im sure im stating the obvious but it's important) keep your phone with you at all times and make sure your mum isnt afraid to call you. making neighbours aware is probably a good shout too, perhaps get them to check in on them occasionally? for us it was a case of saying "no no i'll do it" as much as possible.

hope theres no tough times ahead though and it turns out to be easily treatable.
it was hard for my family, especially my mum and keeping her positive.

all the best
sam.

My mum also had TIA attacks last year.
Very difficult to tell people to slow down if they dont want to, especially if they're independant.
My mum starts with great intentions but before you know it she's up n about doing lots of various activities.

I won't be popular for saying this, but at that age let him do what he wants, he will be miserable sat in a chair doing nothing and will probably die a slower more unpleasant death, let him go out with bang and happy.

I appreciate it is tough on your Mum, but concentrate on providing her with a little additional support rather than curtailing your dads activities.

Rather than looking at what he can't do, can you look at what he can do, I guess he feels a bit like a child being told off all the time, so is digging his heels in, so a list of what he can do may be better recieved.
