Are razor heads intended for one use only?

From a manufacturer / retailer POV, the answer may be obvious, but are there any reasons why I shouldn't be pushing for four/five shaves per razor head? I used to think my dad was being tight with his razors, but I find I'm doing very much the same, only with better efficiency wink

At the price of the five blade jobbies, the little sods can last for a month or so smile

What? You cannot possibly think this to be the case? Tiger Woods, Lewis Hamilton and Roger Federer probably even use them more than once...

I'm including the disposable razors in the question. I've managed to get three or four good shaves out of one of these throwaway things.

A guy I used to work with had a crap conspiracy about razor blades. He was convinced that every time a big brand brought out a new blade design they would purposely blunt all other types of blade they produced. His theory being that you'd be forced to move onto the new (more expensive) razor when your current heads stopped working. To counter this cunning ploy, he'd use ultra-cheap disposable razors which he knew were garbage and therefore (by purposley choosing a crap razor) 'got one up' on the big brands wobble . He always had a shaving rash / cuts.

.. kinda takes cutting your nose to spite your face to a whole new dimension of daily pointlessness.

Utter tosh. I used my original Mach 3 for nearly 10 years with zero face severing. It's only recently that I've swapped to a Quattro Titanium, and that's because my dad bought me it as a gift, and my stock of Mach 3 blades eventually ran out.

I still use the older mach3, none of the newer ones have been as good for me.
I shave once a week as it grows too quick and I can't be arsed. Blades usually last me 3 or 4 shaves, on pretty long stubble.

I use a safety and get three to four shave out of my 9p blade! or a 20p one if I'm feeling like a treat!

I tend to just buy the disposable ones and I find that the cheap ones blunt after about half a shave where as the slightly more expensive ones will last a good 4-5 times.

best thing you can get is a Safety razor. I have a Murker 34 at £24 and got 40 blades for £8. I changed from mach 3 in Jan and never looked back. blades last me about a week or so. but at £8 for 40 is going to last me a long time until I need more and I get a better shave

My thread about them

I shave every day and a disposable Blue II slalom lasts about a month. A packet usually goes for a year. I don't throw them away, my wife takes on my castoffs.

No problems with them cutting me or scraping, I'm really glad I don't feel the need to buy £7 refill blades every month or so.
