Hi all, seeing as my opticians are usless thought id seek help onPH!

Have been wearing contact lenses for a good few years now, and monthly sleep-in ones for around a year, however recently one lense has started to go very blurry, which is really irritiating and giving me headaches. Opticians have suggested i come into them (been in 5 times in a month frown ) so not much use.

Ive tried cleaning them with saline and they seem fine for a minute or two but then go back to beaing blurry, any ideas whats causing this and solutions?! smile

My eyes get dry and irritated like this which make my monthlies unbearable, well just the right one, I think it's hayfever related. Seemed to happen this time last year too. Grrrr

get some glasses and check that you dont have sleep in your eye under your eyelid as that caused me issues...

Take them out and leave them out for a few days. Make sure you lubricate your eyes thoroughly with unpreserved artificial tears (systane or celluvisc). And do go and see your optician, they need to examine your cornea thoroughly and carefully to determine whether your contact lenses have caused any damage to the surface of your eyes. Monthly lenses are more likely to cause problems for the cornea, particularly infectious keratitis.

I was at the optician only last week (thinking I needed a change of lens) and was told tear glands could be the cause. It was bit like sleep on the lower eyelid, and was advised to bathe eyes twice a day with very hot water. Dehydration can also cause eye problems apparently.

You've probably got blepharitis, judging by what the optom has told you. It's very common. However, you must not forget to take your lenses out and give your eyes a rest. Lubricate with drops as I have already described above. Contact lenses are great, but they are not without their problems, and the reduced tear film that washes over the cornea, combined with the reduction in oxygen getting through means that the cornea can suffer as a result.

I also got told a tip to make sure no crap was on my eye lashes which could also cause the above and soreness which would mean red eyes and no contacts for a few days...

Johnson baby shampoo for cleaning the eye lashes properly with no worries of getting it in the eye.

Worked a treat

Thanks, I have been giving eyes a rest from the lens(fortnightly ones) and will try lubricating with drops. Couldn't think of it last night but blepharitis was the word my optician mentioned.
