note to all you ladies out there, it's Cervical Screening Awareness Week so if you're due a smear or you have symptoms, GO GET IT DONE!
It's quick, simple and painless.
And to all you ph men reading this, support your other halves in getting it sorted. Far better to be safe than sorry.

^^^ Yeah this.I was diagnosed 5 years ago with stage 1A1 adenocarcinoma as the result of a routine smear. This isn't something the smear is specifically looking for since it's 'in' the cervical canal as opposed to being 'on' the outside.
Adenocarcinoma is rare but is on the increase in young women for reasons the docs don't know. (It's what Jade Goody died of.)
I personally know of a girl who had a radical hysterectomy for adenocarcinoma at the age of 23 - she wouldn't even have been included in the NHS screening programme before the age of 25.
FFS just go for any check-ups, and don't feel embarassed about pestering the docs before that / in between times if something isn't 'right'.
You know your own body.
Thanks to a relatively new sampling technique, "Thin Prep" - not to mention a health authority in a well-heeled part of the country with lots of money - I've had the Gold Standard of treatment.
Five years on - all clear - though I'll be followed up for ten.
