Does the effectiveness of antihistamines decrease over time? That is, if I was to take one every day - same strength - would my body begin to "get used to them" so I would need a stronger dose?

No,shouldn't do.All anti histamines do is block the production of histamine.Which is what makes your nose run, skin itch etc.Different story for the steroid anti histamines of course.

I used to suffer from dust allergies and hayfever and used to take standard "supermarket" antihistamines daily- I did find that they got less effective as time wore on but that may have been my allergies getting worse.

no longer suffer btw

I found the non drowsy one to be not so effective as the other.

dunno just grew out of it I guess. I think its possible for certain allergies to trigger other allergies. i think it was something in the house that i was living in at the time- i tried to clean everything to within an inch of its life but couldnt shake the allergies, went away pretty soon after i moved though. now i dont suffer with dust or pollen... life is a lot better.
