Couple of weeks and I go for Brain scan.

Anyone have one? Just curious to hear of any experiences.

I am very nervous about it all.

nothing to worry about really, may get a little claustrophobic though as it is quite confined, and you must stay as still as possible. best of luck for it!

Think mine lasted around 30 min - just shut your eyes and think about what you fancy for your evening meal - and don't think about your itchy nose ! Bit noisy, but I might be getting confused with the MRI's I've also had. Shut your eyes and try relax - it'll be done before you know it.

All the best.

Why are you nervous?

I've had a brain MRI because they wanted to check my one sided deafness wasn't due to a tumour. (It wasn't btw.)

AFAIK CT tends to be quicker and quieter than an MRI so unless you're particularly claustrophobic I wouldn't be concerned at allthumbup

Hope you're not claustrophobic and I haven't made you more anxious.hehe

CT scan's are neither claustrophobic nor noisy (MR scans are both).
They usualy only take a few minutes, but you may need an injection half way through.

I've had a few.Nothing to worry about. Sometimes they inject a dye into you, it makes you feel hot and then it feels like you've wet yourself. Sometimes they just make you drink some juice with dye in it and you'll almost wet yourself because you have to drink so much of it.

The actual scan only takes a few mins

Remember to take a CD, otherwise you have to listen to the operators choice.

Oh, and remove your prince albert, for gods sake.

Thanks for the responses.

Do you know if this injection can affect you driving at all as the hospital with the scanner is 30 miles away and me driving there and back is the only real option.

No its just radiolucent contrast, has no other effects and will be out of your system within a couple of hours.

CT brain in a modern scanner takes about 30secs for image aquisition

virtually silent.

MRI Brain is very noisy (headphone noisy) and takes 30 min.

Well i've been and had the scan. Big sister kindly drove me and it was just as well as I had a real bad migraine.

Was escorted into a big room with a giant philips flavoured polo mint.

The guy carrying out the scan seemed to be training a new person and the whole session took around 30 mins and I was told to stay still for the whole time and that was rather awkward whilst they moved the bed up and down and back and forth many times and took what they called test scans.

Then it went to work "beep" then a move and "beep" move several times and that was the scan over. Some whirling and whistling sounds and revolving lights on the inside of the scanner. Felt a bit dizzy getting up due to trying to stay still.

No injection required. Just the results to wait on now. Thanks for the advice guys.
