Is it possible to convert a prescription (ie sph cyl axis values) into the numerical representation of eyesight standards e.g. 6/6 or 20/20?

If so how smile

1 dioptre of blur will reduce your vision to 6/18 from 6/6.
Approximately 2 dioptres of astigmatism will do the same.
Its not quite as simple as that but that'll do.

reading on this broke my mind... I don't suppose you could tell me (roughly obviously) whether or not my vision would be likely to be better or worse than 8/2 with +5 on one eye and the other +0.25

Cheers

8/2 isn't any form of recognised vision measurement. Is this what you mean?
+5 in one and +0.25 in the other suggests a whole host of possibilities.
More info please!

+25 in your good eye should be 6/6 or very close, most people who wouldn't benefit from correction (or have the right pair of glasses) can manage 6/5.

This should be a clue as to what im on about - Engineer officer .. I've just been dropped from applying on eyesight grounds. I can't believe its that bad and am hoping they made some sort of mistake. The opticians told me there was a good chance id still be able to drive (with glasses) even if i lost my good eye!

As for whats going on with my eyes, I have amblyopia in the bad eye - not sure which variant - not through any form of childhood injury.
