Any free divers on here?

I know it is not a particularly popular pursuit but was wondering if anyone does it or was thinking of doing it?
I am doing a one day course in about a months time in London organised by www.notanx.com
Giving it a go to try and improve my lung capacity for other sports and also because I love the water.

Don't quite understand that 'lazy' table thing?
As a note, i've been doing a bit of practice in the pool swimming along the bottom. I usually swim 50 lengths (20m) pool then do two lengths in one hit underwater. Not too sure how long i'm holding my breath for though? Maybe a minute or so, but quite hard after just completing 50 lengths!

I read an article in the paper a couple of weeks ago (think it was the metro) The journalist went on a three day course in thailand and after the three days was able to hold her breath for 4 minutes whilst underwater! She had no previous experience! I am really interested as to how they get you to relax enough to do this!
4 mins is pretty tough, when I was swimming properly before uni i could do 3 mins easily no movement and swim 75m, but that was after alot of training. and im a breaststroker.
the key is hyperventlating to replace all the stale air in your lungs, then 10 deep breaths and go.. and just try and focus on one thing and try not to think about swimming, or anything. if you are doing stationary then just focus on something close to you, like the rope or steps and dont move a muscle.
i havent swam properly in 4 years so i reckon 20m and i would be shot. didnt check that the uni had a pool before i cam, stupid move.

Yes it works, but hyperventlating will remove all the CO2 out of you body, and as your body consumes the oxygen in your lungs, there is no CO2 to stimulate the body to breath, quick way to kill yourself.Vipers said:
