Serious varicose veins at 24? should i get it looked into?
Discussion
Hi all, as far as i know, varicose veins are basically veins that have herniered. Well, i'm 19 stone,6'3, fairly fit, do lots of sports, legs like treetrunks, one man shirehorse type person. Could maybe do with losing 2 and a bit stone in the belly/thigh region. But i've noticed that after a whole winter of snowboarding every couple of days (travelling at the mo) i've gone from having mild vericose veins on one of my calves, to having them pretty bad on the inside of both calves, and a big 6by3inch area of the inside of one of my thighs and a smaller area on the other thigh. Aside from looking like someones shoved a turd under my skin, is there anything to worry about? They cause no pain, but look fairly serious.
thanks in advance

varicose veins are veins which valves have ceased to function. veins have valves to prevent back flow because the pressure is so low (arteries/arterioles etc don't need them).
how sure are you that they are varicose veins, and not just superficial veins just poking out a little as it were? if they aren't causing any symptoms whatsoever (you haven't mentioned any) then why do you think they are varicose? just because they stick out a little?

ah, maybe i'm wrong then? i thought lumpy veins were called vericose veins. I dont know what they are, and they dont cause me any problems aside from looking like crap. And i didnt realise they were as bad as they were until i moved into a new flat with a full lengh mirror in the bathroom...

i doubt they are varicose veins, but if you're worried get them checked out. varicose veins most often come with symptoms, particularly if they are bad!Edited by bigfatnick on Wednesday 28th April 23:27
