.....for the 2nd time in a month, not your usual bit of discomfort and a wet fart either!
Seriously, im dying here. Ive been layed up since friday, today i felt a little better so ventured out with the wife, had a bit of grub and 'hey presto' back to square one.
When do you get to the point with this 'illness' where enough is enough and you cart yourself off to the docs?
Has anybody else had it like this and so often? ive slept probably two full days in the last four and had one million bowel movements. hurl

Hozelock?

You need to not eat for 24 hours. Perhaps just drink boiled water (you can let it cool a bit first if you're not man enough to drink steaming water). I might be wrong, as this is usually advise for dodgy tummy so should apply here? There's some helpful acronym to apply. I'm sure it's not RICE as that's Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate. biggrin Ah, BRAT? Bananas, Rice, Apples, Toast. (Had to google it.)

BTW that's what you can eat if you have to eat rather than what you jam up your rectum (rice to soak the liquid, toast as back up, apples to secure the lot in there and a banana to push it deep inside).

I had this a few Christmasses ago. Screwed me up for ages, swollen glands and all sorts. Aparently I had something viral that the doctor was unable to diagnose and unable to medicate, which isn't particularly useful.

not sure but the OP should be drinking plenty of water with some salts to keep ion/electrolyte concentrations up.

Had a long period where journies were only planned ones with generall extended loo breaks before hand.

Doc eventually referred me to a specialist (within about 2 seconds of seeing him when he reliased I had private health cover.

Went to see the gastro ent consultant, blood tests, colonoscopy, exclusion dieting and it's probably that I've a lactose intolerance and possible milk protien allergy. No really dodgey moments or close calls for months.

It's most likely a bug though that you're not letting go fully before feeding it again. Go see your GP.

Take something like Dioralyte to replace the salts and see how that goes....I would eat very plainly and definitely avoid all dairy products.

Take immodium, (or one of the much cheaper non-branded ones), replace the salts with rehydration packs, go to GP for antibiotics (NHS really don't like giving them for this, but private will, and if you look at the data it's a good idea).

I picked up campilobacter (spelling?) in Malaysia and was much the same.

A course of Ciprofloxacin (more dreaful spelling no doubt) worked a treat.

I think you need to get yourself to the doctor and get a diagnosis ie. is it a bug/passing thing or an illness like IBS or intolerance.

Until then, I'd stick with water and dry foods, avoiding all dairy and fatty foods.

Not sure immodium is the answer on this one, it just starts coming up instead.

Definitely get yourself to the doctor after day 5. Could be infection, ulcer, IBS, IBD, or maybe just you ate something a bit dodgy. Whichever way, there's no point letting something like that impact on your quality of life. I was a bit stupid and thought "it'll pass" and regret not going to see the Doc earlier.

Otherwise, try co-codamol (particularly if you are getting pains as well). 'Backs you up' and makes things a bit more manageable. Be warned - may make you a bit woozy!
