Today is the day. I'm going in for surgery.
Discussion
After a 4 week wait since my diagnosis I'm going in at 12:30 for my operation. They cocked it up when I had it done last time, and it's only since I got a new surgeon that the problem was picked up (I didn't ask what happened to the last surgeon, she'd just been replaced). Shouldn't take too long, but I'm expecting the anaesthetic to still be in system post op this afternoon, which could prove interesting. Fingers crossed!
If its the op you aren't looking forward too, then read on...
I went for a knee op on 1st March. The hospital was nice enough and the staff pretty friendly. The anethetist came to chat things through with me and was genuinely the sort of chap you'd go and have a beer with, under different circumstances (he wasnt a drunk, just a nice, well informed chap).
I was wheeled down at 6pm, pretty nervous, but quickly into a pre op room where they introduced me to the staff.
I then had a heartbeat monitor attached to my finger, which went crackers, and we all laughed at how nervious I really was. British gallows humpour is the best.
A small needle/pin went into the back of my hand, which allowed an IV drip to be connected. This didnt hurt. They then take the pin out so there is no metal in your hand, just the plastic tube connector.
Then the Anethetist did something quite clever. He chatted through my 'feelings' as they were happening. Of course I hadnt realised he had started sending me to sleep.
They went something like this:
Warm hand/arm
Tingly jaw
Then bam - out!
All in all it probably took about 10 seconds for me to go under, but I was completely conscious until the 9th second.
This is the strange thing though. When you sleep at night you are aware of time, to an extent. But under the anesthetic time didn't register at all. I *literally* woke up 1 second after I went to sleep!
The recovery room was fine. I was cold, so got a heater, then after about 30 mins I was taken back up to my room.
I then spent an evening watching Sky Movies. Transformers on morphine is pretty damn good.
I spent ages worrying about it and reading online. It was one of the easiest things I've done!

A filling? "Operation"? "Surgeon"? Am confused.
I remember when I had my last op, I heard the beep-beep of the heart monitor "behind" me (I'm lying down) so I arch my back and neck to have a look. The staff panic as they think I'm having some sort of fit.

Yes. My new dental surgeon carried out the operation. You'll all be pleased to hear that I've pulled through. Much better experience than the last butchery attempt.
Anaesthetic is still in full force though, so I'm expecting a desk covered in tea by the end of this brew.

WTF is this thread all about then?
Is this whole thread just attention seeking because you are having a filling?
HOnestly?
Oh no, I wouldn't put it down as attention seeking. I'd prefer to class it as light hearted Friday humor on my part.Is this whole thread just attention seeking because you are having a filling?
HOnestly?
I'm sorry if you were genuinely concerned for me. I didn't mean to fill you with any sort of emotion
