For about three weeks Ive been getting heartburn, I get bile or acid coming up my throat, and I have a wheezy cough and shortness of breath.
Also feel lightheaded and tired.
I think I may have a bug but is there anything else?
I recently got an indoor cat and I've stopped smoking (from 10 a day) about a week ago.
My younger brother died last year of an enlarged heart, I do hope it's not that.

Not sure about the wheezing but the acid is whats called acid reflux, where the acid as you've dexribed comes back up into the throat. Sometimes this can be treated with Gaviscon (great stuff) but it could be a virus such as the h pylori bacteria, dont rule this out. The doc will give you some tablets to clear it up. I had this for a bit and the tablets cleared it up within a week or so. But for the time being get some Gaviscon as it stops the acid burning your wind pipe and stomach. You might have an ulcer. Get to the quacks and let him sort it for you mate.
I've had heartburn almost daily now for 15 years! I must have swallowed a few gallons of Gaviscon liquid and a barrow load of tablets.
I believe Omeprazole used to be prescribed by gastro consultants very often following a gastroscopy but now it's off prescription I'm trying 10mg a day of that, though it hardly touches it.
Somebody has given me a few 30mg tablets and they seem to work.
None of that helps the OP but as we're on the subject I thought I'd chuck in my experience.

I've also been getting this for about a week now, haven't tried much for it other than Rennie but hate the chalky texture of them. Also feel lightheaded and tired.

I think it is a bug, I had the Norovirus last weekend and just got over that a few days ago so am guessing its the last of that.

helicobacter pylori is bacteria, and almost everyone has it just with the immunosuppressed (e.g. those who are stressed) it is a common cause of gastric ulcers, and can, in the right circumstances, aid in heart burn. give it a few more days OP, still getting problems, see your local GP.

Doc told me to cut down on coffee or change to decaf, apparently caffeine produces more stomach acid.

So lay off coffee. Yep, drink a lot.
Lay off orange juice. But Tropicana, I love you!
I want a bloody ciggy I can tell ya.
Ciggy's are bloody awful for it too. I used to work with a Belgian bloke who started his day with an espresso and a ciggy before any food....stomach ulcers at 25! Lay off orange juice. But Tropicana, I love you!
