this isnt for my benefit, but my boyfriends. He couldnt afford to keep paying for his monthlys and started using dailys.

Anyway,he couldnt afford these after a while and refuses to wear glasses (vain) and so has been putting his dailys in solution everynight! Has been ok for about 2months now, but as they are only dailys they wont hold out much longer.

Where is the cheapest place to get monthlys? I think he was paying treble numbers for his, but cant remember exactly how much. prices would be great if you dont mind telling me. Thanx

Sorry, do you mean he has been wearing the same single pair of daily disposable lenses every day for 2 months?
If he has thats some achievement, they're not the strongest of designs

I remember not that long ago Baush and Lomb were in some kind of legal trouble after being caught selling the exact same lens, labelled as both daily and monthly disposable, so they were obviously making a mint selling lenses that last a month 30x faster than they should. I think as long as you are cleaning them properly and there is no visible damage or protein buildup you should be ok - but I'm not an optician. wink

i've swapped to dailies being replaced every month or so, or if i get a problem, which hasn't been the case anyway.
The main thing you would get is chipping of the lenses at the edges, which will make things a little uncomfortable, but just be careful, and treat as monthlies in terms of solutions and care

Generally the trick is to look at the material the lens has been made from. It will say on the side of the box i.e: Lotrafilcon/Omafilcon A/etc etc.
If your daily packet says the same material as the monthly packet from the same manufacturer you might be on to a winner.
You must follow the monthly cleaning regieme though, try not to wash in tap water (there is some nasty stuff in tap water occasionally that can give you ocular infections).
Daily lenses tend be a lower water content that their monthly equivelent (see side of box and material type). General rule of thumb is that a lower water content = lower oxygen transmission to the eye = bad.
This is not true for Silicon hydrogel lenses though (again will be stated on box) as the method of O2 transmission is different.
Other dailies might have a lower optical/structural quality as it is determined that they will only be handled twice a day then binned.

If he is getting away with it though and has no issues well done to him.

I found the dailies were very thin, the monthlies feel much thicker, I'm sure I can tell the difference.
Anyway, I buy mine from www.contactforlenses.com

Do NOT overwear contacts, my eyes are scarred from it so I can't wear them any more.

I used the Specsaver monthlys for years and usually made them last a bit longer then I got fed up of cleaning them and bought some dalies from an internet sellr and I made those last two days and they were fine.
My eyes were both the same prescription and sometimes I would just wear one if I was watching TV and on here.
For me it's bye bye lenses as I have just had eye surgery and it's great waking up and being able to see perfectly and a bit strange going to bed with perfect vision.

Out of interest which type of lens and were they monthly daily etc?

I had to stop wearing my previous gas permeable lenses for 6 months as my eyelids were getting infected. After that switched to monthly softs and have had no problems since touchwood. Even extend them to two months sometimes. I admitted this to the optician and she agreed with me that the fact I was NOT cleaning them helped them to last longer. To clarify I let the overnight soaking do the cleaning.

They were 'early' soft lenses. I wore them for anything up to twenty hours a day in smoky rooms as a teenager then I had five days in a coma with them in which I think was the final straw. Apparently the surface of my eyes is like tree bark now.

If I had my time again I wouldn't wear them for excessive periods.

Hmmm. I pay £10 a month, have done for years. Maybe they're honouring an old contract...

Mine are £13.

Does it depend on what sort of lens you go for?

were talking but nothings set in stone yet. its easier just saying that rather than, my-ex-who-im-still-talking-to-and-am-tring-to-work-things-out-with
hehe

Anyway, back to the subject...he says he was paying upto £20 a month, cant mind if thats monthlys or dailys though. Yes hes managed to make the same set of dailys last all this time and is still wearing them without any probs at the moment. He takes really good care of them and they get sterilised thourghly (sp) everynight and as soon as his eyes get tired...into the solution they go.I will defo pass on the info you have all gave me as he really needs to get a new set...i would buy them for him but i dont know his strength etc and he wont tell me.

If he shops around you can get monthly lenses a lot cheaper than £20/month (even toric ones).

You could then take real good care of the monthly ones and probably stretch them out to last 6-8 weeks. This would be a lot safer than using daily ones for such a long period.

I've never had any trouble with wearing 2 days on the trot sleeping in them too. Do it as a matter of course. They dont even dry out, and are just regular dailies. Protein build up generally doesn't occur either. Not sure why I ended up doing it, more convienience of not taking them out, but done that for 12 years. Had eye infections but that was from bad handling.

I can leave my Focus Daily's in for upto a month without removing them. When they get cloudy with protein build up I'll bin them and then give my eyes a couple of days break. Never had any problems in 15+ years and I have regular check ups with the opticians.

The only time it becomes an issue is during hayfever season, so I don't wear them at all.

And yes, I'm well aware of the dangers!

Really? You're happy to risk losing an eye or worse for what; convenience? Saving a tenner a month?
It's your life and clearly you're free to make your own choices but I'd advise against it.
Rather you than me...
