Numb leg and ache in knee area
Discussion
Hi,
Had a skydiving accident approx 25 years ago (yes i know it was a silly thing to do!) and with a bad landing apparantly strained the tendons in my right knee. For a few years the knee was weaker and hurt a lot in the colder months. A couple of years ago i was still suffering so my GP got me a hospital x-ray to be told there is nothing wrong.
Now my right lower leg feels a numb/tingly and it hurts me to bend and lift the leg, the pain seems to be at the back of my knee at the sides, especially if i have not cycled for a few days.
Last summer i cycled the Outer Hebrides for 5 days constant carrying full camping kit and cycling every day i had no problems as long as i took it easy for the first few miles but these last few weeks expecially last couple of days its really aching/stiff as i have not done any cycling to work for a week.
Why should my leg hurt if i have not exercised for a few days, it's quite painfull at the moment and a bit worried after 25 years this should have healed itself, my left leg is no problem at all.

Martyn I had the same problem with my right knee, from a thai-boxing incident. I had the same symptoms as you. They finally found out what it was when they did a MRI Scan. An MRI image shows a better contrast between different kinds of soft issue and therefore they were able to pick up that I had a tear in my meniscus (behind my knee). I had keyhole surgery and everything is now fine.
Ask your doctor to send you for a MRI Scan and not to be tight! AN X-ray can only show so much.

was just about to mention menisci! agree to see if you can get an MRI. and unfortunately OP, some things will never heal. if your GP won't do you an MRI scan, they cost circa £200, give or take. where are you getting the numbness and tingling? is it at the back of the leg (below the knee i mean...as that's what you said), please say in more detail and when you get it...lying down, sitting, after cycling, is it worse in the morning or at night etc.Ask your doctor to send you for a MRI Scan and not to be tight! Hi,
Thanks for the prompt replies,
Cycled home from work last night (12 miles at 1am) and leg whilst tired is not so stiff and painfull this morning.
The tingling and numbness i get when not exercised for a couple of days i cannot pinpoint other than the knee and leg area just below the knee and the actual pain is the two muscles or tendons you can feel each side underneath the knee each side if you bend it (sorry to be so vague),
Thanks again,
Martyn.......

not vague at all, those are tendons for biceps femoris and semitendinosus muscles. can't suggest anything other than going for private health care. not too expensive these days and you get treated like a person and a patient, instead of a person in the way like at a GP surgery.it's quite a strange problem, and given the length of time and the onset of the injury i wouldn't really like to hazard a guess online.
Thank you Ross for the kind comments,
I waited well over 20 years for a Marcos and finally got a quite special one thinking it would never happen,
