As of monday morning the wife and I have given up the fags! No chewing gum, no patchs nothing, just stopped! According to my NHS iphone app we have already saved #10.90 between us smile

My wife is coping fine, shes had no urges for another and doesn't seem bothered at all... Myself on the other hand am finding it hard, I smoked about 16 a day, it doesn't help that about 60% of my colleagues smoke, nor does it help that I feel I am missing out on the social aspect of 'going for a fag' and the day is dragging being in the office all day long!

I am sooooo tempted to pop out for 'just one' to reduce my cravings... Is this a good idea? Or will I just be putting off the inevitable?

HELP!!!

Just think, by stopping smoking you will live longer to allow you to sit at your desk getting bored for even more years.

Just don't smoke, few more days and you'll be good. It's not the cravings that get you then, just the social situations, that's when you need the willpower to remind yourself why you shouldn't smoke.

All this talking of smoking, I'm popping our for a cuppa and a cig.

If you really want to quit, never, ever, do this; no matter how pissed or desperate you get.

Instead of going out for a fag with your mates, spend 10 minutes on PH! Mind you, it's just as addictive!

DON'T just have the one to stop the cravings, you will still be a smoker!

Get the Alan Carr book (no, not him, the other one) it really helps. I smoked for thirty years and gave up last year and I very rarely miss them, this time has been a doddle compared to the past.

Now I've given up I'm fit as fk and I can honestly say I've never felt better in my whole life. As long as you want to quit you will biggrin

Hang on in there!

I gave up 4 years ago after losing 2 family members and a good friend to cancer.

What I did was actually put the money aside every day which I would otherwise have spent on cigarettes, and then use that for treats.

After a short time, seeing the money build up is a motivation in itself. I used it to buy myself a classic car to do up, plus lots of toys for in the garage!

Still have the fag breaks with your mates just don't smoke.

I would spend the money you would be spending on something nice to replace the smoking for a few months while you are suffering. Line of coke prehaps.

D'you have an Amazon link to that book, please?

Do them chewing gums really work?

I've never tried them, (but if anyone dare talks to me at the moment I think I will rip their head off) so it might help, either that or I am going to go and get an enormous lunch!

Replacing Fag with Food!

I did it the way your doing it a few years ago just stopped, only reason i did it though because my OH was pregnant and i didnt want my Boy to see me have problems in later life, my grandmother smoked alot up until a number of years ago she's in such a mess now and i know it upset's my Father and my Aunt wouldn't want to put my kids through it.
Well done for giving it a go out of your own choice and not because your being forced by "The nanny state" if you want to still smoke know the consequences of it but enjoy it if thats your decision!

Try to look at it as a competition with yourself...

...if you have 'just one': You just lost the game... and nobody likes losing the game.

Smokers are jokers. I've been smoke free for 10 months now, but theres nothing like a good health scare to put things into perspective.

Be strong my friend.
I recommend putting everything you can into these next few weeks, enduring the agony and the heartache.
Then, over time, the novelty of being a 'non smoker' will reduce at a slightly faster rate than the cravings until you inevitably think "this isn't all its cracked up to be and I really like smoking".

You need to be strong to reaffirm quite how much you like it.
Good luck.

Sounds like good advice... but there in lies the problem, I know I should quit (this is my second day fag free so Im on the road now) but the problem I have is I enjoy smoking...

I know that the cost is ridiculous but its not really an issue, the one thing that is making me give up is I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter. Both myself an my wife gave up when we found out she was pregnant but about 18months later we both slowly fell back into it...

I dont want her growing up seeing us smoke, even though we never smoked in the house or car.

These b"astard cravings though!!!

Im going to Pret for some lunch!

My best advice is to buy the Alan Carr book and then you'll be well prepared to quit. If you do it this time, great, if not buy the book and take your time reading it with a fag on biggrin

I used to enjoy fags more than anyone, now I'm completely indifferent thumbup

PS, you're not giving up, you're escaping from a powerful addiction wink

I gave up some time ago and I'm now addicted to Nicorette gum hehe

At least that won't fk me up the same as the ciggies would have.
