Well cue last night at my local, load of beer, great entertainment, great friends. Went to a late bar in my town (which actually pretends to be a club) anyway cut a long story short i went over on my ankle and subsequently went down with my leg folded underneath me.

As soon as i got up i knew something was not right. I managed to get a cab and get home. This morning my leg was that painful i couldn't even lift it off the bed without it hurting like hell. It took me an hour to put on some joggers and make it downstairs.

After 4 hours in A&E and an x-ray which revealed thankfully it was not broke but i have severe ligament damage i was released with a load of painkillers and crutches.

bks, bks, bks. has anyone suffered anything similar? how long did it take to heal?

I've had better days truth be told :-(

That sounds sucky - I hope you recover soon

I damaged my posterior cruciate ligament in a motorcycle accident last August.

Still not fixed yet!

breaking it would have been better. Ligaments take ages to heal, I popped a few in my elbow at Judo and they took about 4 months before they were back to normal and they werent even badly damaged.

What i was quite amazed at was the doc at A&E tried to get me to put weight on it and try and walk a bit on it seeing as it was not broke, there was no chance btw.

I would have thought complete rest initially with R.I.C.E and i'm booked in at physion in a week.

I was hoping to be up walking within a week but its not looking that way after feed back that i have had frown

The docs at the NHS will keep sending you away with the next cheapest option. Get an MRI done - just in case. Push for it. I only found out that I had ruptured my PCL four months after I had done it because the docs kept sending me away and telling me to rest it. Which does nothing to a ruptured PCL.

Go private if you can.

Exactly the words the Doc used to me when I damaged the ligament in my ankle in 1999. The bad news for the OP is that mine is still occasionally problematic, I still feel unstable when walking on rough ground

I didn't get any physio or anything and was daft enough to go along with the "rest it and it will be OK" advice I was given as it was only a sprain (even though it wasn't x-rayed).

I would at least see a physio and consider further treatment.

I am booked into physio a week from tommorrow (Monday) and compared to 24 hours ago its a lot better, pain free when resting and i can actually put a little weight on it so a massive improvement compared to yesterday but i realise and after feedback from here and what some friends of mine have said its gonna be a long recovery process and i'll just have to accept it.

6 weeks will be a good recovery as long as you manage it right, once your weight bearing and the physio is happy loads of balance/propreception work, strengthening around the joint through exercise and you will be back to normal in no time.
