Got a holiday at end of August and was supposed to get back into shape straight after Christmas.

I'm not exactly heavy but i'm carrying a bit of a beer gut and was hoping to have toned-up by the time the holiday rolled round. Been a bit lazy though and didn't bother.

Is it too late to get trim for it or am I gonna have to work like a man posessed in order to shift it. Best method of exercise to loose it?

Cheers

It's never too late to start exercising. You may be suprised what you can achieve between now and August and most importantly, you will feel healthier. Try not to lose too much weight at once as it does tend to come back as soon as you return to old eating habits (and lets face it, most people do return).

If I was you I would be hitting the treadmill and exercise bike, with some rowing added in. The running is supposed to be very good for shifting beer bellies. No doubt someone will be along shortly to advise on weights, but that's not my thing so will leave it to someone who knows what they are talking about.

Swimming is also good for the "larger" person as it is low impact. You need to go for it though, not a gentle paddle type effort!

Depending how much you have to lose it should be easy to shift a gut by august

A good diet , decent amount of CV , couple of wieghts sessions per week should see you shift around 2 pounds per week

Have seen people go from 18% Body fat down to low teens in 8 weeks easy enough

It just depends how much you want to do it and how dedicated you are to body recompostion

Shouldn't be too late providing you are prepared to put the work in.

Cheers for the vote of support, folks.

I'm gonna get stuck in and work as hard as I can.

depends how big you are and where you want to get to.
i aimed to lose about a stone and was never much of a runner, i found i could burn twice the amount of calories than on a treadmill by using a cross trainer instead. my legs are quite powerful but my lungs pack in WAY too easily so naturally slow pace, high resistance on a cross trainer suited me. started in october and have lost more than the stone i planned going from 13.5 to around 12.1

just find a method that suits you but can still burn the calories you need

I'm not that heavy to be honest. I'm about 13st. I don't really wanna loose much weight, if any. Just wanna tone up and get a bit fitter. The beer belly is the main thing that is bugging me.

to get rid of the beer belly just crack in some cardio/endurance stuff. weight training won't really help that. try and cut down on the fat and beer for the mean time and get some running, cycling or swimming in smile

if you're only 13 stone, august leaves you plenty of time to get some decent training in!

Nice one, that is good to hear. I've already cut down the beer and wine drastically. Missus is dieting too so it's a bit easier to eat less fatty foods.

Stop the beer and wine completely; they stimulate the appetite, slow down the metabolism and contain lots of empty calories.

The best shape I was ever in was when I was at university. I couldn't afford the bus so I walked everywhere, and obviously couldn't afford food (living on £10 a week to fund a post uni American trip) and as a result of that by the end of the first term (September to December) I had dropped about two stone.
