WTF have I done?
Discussion
in the gym last night sitting in an upright bench, was doing dumbell curls, 24kg for the record, so its fair to say putting a lot of effort in, and then as I was pulling up for one more I felt something in my neck go.
Since then I can't really turn it left as i hurts, right is ok but still hurts and it feels stiff...
Any ideas?

try sitting directly in front of the mirror not to the side so you can see your arms.
that may sound like a mickey take (ok it is a little)
but it a serious comment, if your mirror lifting, then if your looking to the side, its very easy to pull your neck as its out of line, and subjecting one side to more force
of course, if you were not looking in mirror it could be much worse, and you could be dead by dinner time. if your still posting this afternoon, we will know you were posing and will be fine in 3 or 4 days

you probably tweaked your SCM muscle (main rotator of neck) or something. next time when doing curls don't use a weight which causes you to have to move your neck. the idea is to train your biceps not your neck! (during curls at least anyway!). plenty of other ways to do that. hope it gets better soon. keep moving it but not too much (don't over stretch it, but keep it mobile to stop it wasting/arophy)

thanks steve, I had heard that stretching your muscles before you lift heavy with them was very bad and made them prone to tearing or something...
generally stretching before exercise isn't too great, you should do a small amount, but not much mor than that. among other things it actually can inhibit some neural activity. dynamic stretching before, static stretching after. Two weeks ago Saturday I did something rather silly.
I was doing front raises.
The weight must've been a little too much because I was really struggling at six reps though I had decided it was 10 or bust.
Bust it was... I 'had' to swing and jerk to get the last one out and twang! Something went in my shoulder... I thought. It didn't feel too bad at the time so finished my session as usual.
Sunday morning I could barely move. Shooting pains in my neck, shoulders and back. Bugger thinks me, pulled something - better make an appointment with osteopath. It eased during the course of the day but still not right. By Monday morning I could barely get out of bed again - off to osteopath.
He had a good rummage and fiddle and stuck the pins in. At the end of the session he asked me to stay on the bench and clasp my fingers behind my neck. He interlaced his arms within mine and started swaying and rocking until he suddenly twisted me and pop/crack/bang! No idea what happened but he said I'd popped a rib and he'd just put it back. Instant relief.
Still have a little tenderness which is being addressed but a popped rib doesn't find its way back on its own - it needed treatment.
ETA remove dodgy link.
