If I run 25 miles per week (about 1,300 per year), how often should I replace my running shoes? I know the manufacturers say every 600 miles, but that seems a bit extreme………?

I'd agree with them at every 5-600 miles but perhaps every 6 months would be OK. When you next replace them, take the old ones and compare the level of cushioning from the foam midsole. The older one is likely to be a lot softer, especially around your strike point.

Edit: I have multiple pairs of shoes on the go at any one time, so am not very good at keeping track of the mileage on each, but can generally tell when a pair is wearing out.
