Been off work since tuesday with this st. Not spots in throat just one big mound of puss, swollen glands in neck, fever when sleeping. Effen sucks.
Had about 5 hours sleep over 3 days and this morning after finally getting 3 hours of non stop sleep I woke up to a pain i can only describe as being kicked in the neck by a horse with hooves of magma.

My sister had tonsillitis a few months back and has half her course of antibiotics left. It's Erythroped. Dr Google says its a general antibiotic.

I would go to the doctors but:

1) I've not signed up to one in this town yet.
2) No car at the moment so would have to get bus and be cold, etc.
3) Reading on google it says most people are meant to sit it out. Dont want to make the trip and be told to just wait it out. Not called NHS direct because to cover their ass all they ever do is say see a doctor at the end of every conversation.

Worth taking these pills, or sit it out?

Don't know why im asking this as most of you are far too responsible to recommend i take prescription medication I was not prescribed.

Home remedies welcome.

Need to be better for monday as have important work to do.

'er indoors swears by the following:
Large dollop of honey
juice of half a lemon
dilute 50:50 with hot water
(optional) shot of vodka

Use it to wash down some paracetamol

And yes, I would start on the antibiotics, but half a course might not be enough.

I have none of those ingredients within coughing distance. I have some 10 year old (After first opening) captain morgans. Smells like petrol.

I could start doing shots of that until i feel better i guess.

Still not sure about the antibiotics. Dunno what im worrying about. My gran still uses out of date medication she bought at a market in india 6 years ago.

This illness is doing wonders for the heart rate though. Down from a 75bmp average to 60 exactly.

Half a course of antibiotics is BAD, BAD I tell you!
If doesn't work effectively and causes resistance.

Go to your pharmacy, you can buy some pretty could lozengers, dequadin etc

Then sign up to a GP!

Precisely! The stronger bacteria survive after the weaklings have been knocked out, and then the survivors multiply. That's how antibiotic resistant strains can be developed. Always finish the course!

Today is literally the worst day for me. Face is going red and hot. Ear kind of hurts.
Got ZERO money until tomorrow because there's no cash machines and I have something like 9.89 in my bank anyway.
NO cash on me for bus.
Car brake lights broken.
Text friend asking for lift, He was at work.

There's a walk in place about 20 minutes walk from my house, but it pouring it down.

This is so gash.

Wont take the half course then.

I have a huge pot of pennies. Do I dare ps off the bus driver? I hate peasant transport.

Edited to take out friend bashing. He phoned me offering all kinds of help haha.

If its as bad as you say get yourself to A&E. I had similar 2 years ago, doc said go to A&E and I was admitted with severe glandular fever. Spent 5 days in hospital on Antibiotcs, steroids and powerful pain killers, administered intraveniously as I couldn't swallow.

I'm probably being a bit a man about all this tbh. I hate being ill.
It's ok, I've just found a source of £1.50 haha. I couldn't believe it earlier when I looked around and couldn't find that small amount of money. Who the hell doesn't have that kicking around. Me apparently.

Oh dear. Just looked up picture of glandular fever. It looks a lot more like what I have than the pictures of the tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis = small white spots all over the shop.

Glandular fever = one big mass and a well white tongue.

Hypochondria activated.

Is there no one else who could drive you? If not get walking to the walk-in.
You could always try pleading with the bus driver. I was let on for free when I was on crutches as I only wanted 2 stops to rest my arms!

Frankeh i know your pain.

I got signed off Yesturday for the week with Tonsillitis. Monday and Tuesday were horrible, but drugs are helping now.

Doc gave me Cefuroxim-ratiopharm to treat the infection (Penicillin is normal but im allergic)

He also said take ibruprufen for the pain in the throat. This helped me sleep a lot better. I also found that a cup of lemsip just before bed gave me a few good hours.

Im meant to be snowboading in Austria on saturday, Tonsillitis sucks.

Do not start taking those antibiotics, there are much better ones to take and as others have said, you need a full course of antibiotics. Get yourself down to the walk in centre, they are good and know what they are doing.

In the meantime, regular paracetamol and or ibuprofen, salt water gargles, throat lozenges, soft diet and rest up. You are more likely to have tonsillitis than glandular fever and the fact you can sit and type on the computer suggests that glandular fever is unlikely - most people with glandular fever can't even lift there head up as it takes too much effort!

Just counted out 1.50 in 2p's from my change box. Looked online. 1 minute until the last bus. I'm so full of rage im actually feeling better.

Edit: Yeah. I dont have the rash either. Never had this before so not sure what to expect.

Contemplating just driving now. It's all down hill so it's no unreasonable to constantly have my brake lights on, right? :P

In hospitals they used to make us gargle with Disprin and then swallow it after each gargle and I must say that it worked.

All the best.

If you ring a local gp it should put you through to the out of hours service. Not sure if they'll def see you but they will point you in the right direction.
